Rifugio Sasso Bianco
The starting point of the itinerary is the settlement of Piaia, a lovely little village nestled on the wooded slopes of Sasso Bianco at 1175 meters above sea level. Dotted with white stone-and-wood homes, centuries-old barns and fountains from which crystal-clear water flows, the village shows the signs for Tabiài de Ciamp, Rifugio Sasso Bianco and Cima Sasso Bianco. The forest road winds through La Costa, Mont del Sol, the Costa de le Palote (1625 meters), offering breathtaking views of the Monti dell’Agner, the Pale di San Martino, the summit of Vezzana and Cima Mulaz.
After about an hour and twenty minutes of walking, the forest road, sometimes a little steep, gives way to the rugged path that ventures into the dense conifer vegetation brushed by icy streams.
After tackling a difference in altitude of 665 meters, the trail leads to Rifugio Sasso Bianco, set on a bright grassy expanse, from whose privileged position the eye embraces the steep rocky slopes of Monte Civetta.
For more information about the services offered by the welcoming mountain hut, you can visit the website www.rifugiosassobianco.it. From here you can follow the signs for Sasso Nero and Sasso Bianco, reachable in about an hour’s walk, where you can admire some of the most photogenic views of the excursion.

The church of San Tomaso Apostolo
The medieval place of worship stands in the heart of Santomasino, a short distance from the Cieli Dolomitici planetarium, in Via Celat, 9.
Facing southwest, the gabled façade of the church is adorned with a faded painted work, located between a small quatrefoil opening and the entrance portal. The latter is flanked by two half-columns supporting a broken pediment, crowned by two wooden sloping roofs. Along the edges of the front, the neat arrangement of the corner stones stands out.
Attached to the structure, the bell tower is marked by a series of single- and double-lancet windows opening into the belfry. Another eight single-lancet windows open in the octagonal drum, crowned by a bulbous metal spire topped by a golden angel.
One of the municipality’s most significant spiritual, historical, architectural and cultural landmarks, the church of Celat preserves priceless frescoes, 19th-century canvases and the fine high altar from the mid-19th century.
