The church of San Paolo Apostolo
Located at Via Vittorio Veneto, 2, the church of San Paolo Apostolo is nestled in the urban heart of Terrazzo, close to the winding canal that crosses the town.
The majestic place of worship is characterized by a simple double-sloped façade vertically tripartite by four pilasters. In the central section of the front opens the large entrance portal, adorned with square panels and surmounted by a white tympanum supported by two sinuous brackets. Above the entrance door stands a pictorial work depicting Saint Paul the Apostle. Wrapped in ample drapery, the saint is distinguishable by the double-edged sword along his right side. Worn by the signs of time, the work portrays the saint in a rustic landscape under a serene blue sky.
In the lateral sections, two rectangular windows open. Completing the vertical development of the structure are the architrave, the frieze bearing the inscription DIVOQUE PAULO, and the triangular pediment with projecting molded frames crowned by three metal crosses. At the center of the tympanum is the inscription D.O.M (Deo Optimo Maximo).
Illuminated by wide rectangular single-lancet windows, the vast single nave is surmounted by an elaborate painted coffered ceiling. The four side chapels house precious altars in polychrome marbles. Two steps lead to the frescoed presbytery.
Beside the church rises the bell tower in exposed red brick, embellished with hanging arches. On the east and west sides of the bell tower shaft, two clocks with Roman numerals stand out. Marked by four elegant mullioned windows, the belfry is crowned by a soaring conical spire.
Corte Bottagisio – Villa Nani Mocenigo
Framed by wheat fields, lush hedges of ailanthus, black locusts, willows and horse chestnuts, the property where Villa Nani Mocenigo stands is bordered by the watercourse that flows for 24 km from Bonavigo to Merlara. One of the most fascinating elements of the private architectural complex, located at Via Maria Sambo 12, is the mighty dovecote tower that emerges from the rural vegetation, offering enchanting landscape views.
If you are wondering what to do in Terrazzo, Villa Nani Mocenigo is one of the most significant historical, cultural and architectural landmarks of the municipality.
