El Troi de le Iàl
The starting point of the charcoal trail is located about 3 km east of the town center of Cencenighe Agordino, in the hamlet of Bastiani. After leaving the car in the parking area of the small village, you set off along a winding mule track, rather steep, which in about twenty minutes leads to the settlement of Bricol, located at 1097 meters above sea level.
In the local dialect, the term “iàl” refers to the clearings where charcoal was produced through the slow burning of timber, a process that could last up to two weeks. Made mainly from beech and spruce, the wood was skillfully arranged around a hearth and then covered with branches and packed earth. After the pile had been lit from within, holes were made to ensure air circulation.
The woodland route has been restored and enhanced in order to keep alive the memory of this historic tradition, which for centuries was a fundamental element of the area’s economy.

The church of Sant’Antonio Abate
Set in the historic heart of Cencenighe in Piazza Vecchia, 1, this eighteenth-century place of worship is accessible through a finely carved wooden portal facing northwest, framed by Ionic semicolumns supporting a broken triangular pediment.
Above the portal stand out the wooden sculptures of two leonine figures, placed in profile facing each other, with two semicircular windows opening on either side. Another quatrefoil opening rises at the top of the façade.
The three bright naves of the place of worship house fine works of sacred art, including the majestic high altar made of Swiss pine, and paintings of rare quality, among which a seventeenth-century altarpiece depicting Sant’Antonio Abate, San Rocco and San Sebastiano stands out for its historical value and the quality of its execution.
Of note is the soaring bell tower, incorporated into the structure, crowned by an onion-shaped spire resting on an octagonal drum.
