Hike from Casera Roa (Rova) to Baita Folega
The starting point of the route is the parking area in front of the town hall on Via Chiesa, 1. Leave the entrance to the municipal offices on your right and follow provincial road 347 for 2.5 km, winding along the Missiaga stream, until you find the entrance to trail 544 on your right, which leads to Casera Roa. The trail winds through dense woodland and runs alongside a lovely stone-and-wood hut surrounded by a bright meadow.
Located at 1436 metres above sea level, casera Roa, Rova, or de la Roa is a welcoming refuge overlooked by the snow-capped peaks of the San Sebastiano group. Surrounded by a fertile grassy expanse once used for summer grazing, the casera is a recommended destination for all hikers wondering what to do in La Valle Agordina.
After the visit, continue south east along CAI 544. At the fork, keep going south east along a stretch of CAI 543 to reach Casera Moschesin, an alpine shelter built at the foot of the mountain of the same name. From the casera’s privileged position, at 1801 metres above sea level, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Dolomites and the vast, silent conifer forests that cloak their steep slopes.
The route resumes towards Cresta del Valaraz via CAI 541. From its 1885 metres of elevation, the dizzying mountain ridge dominating Val Clusa offers wide-ranging views of the Monti del Sole to the south, Monte Schiara and Monte Talvena to the east, the San Sebastiano group and Monte Civetta to the north, and Agner to the east.
Continuing on CAI 541, a series of switchbacks winds through the area heavily hit by Storm Vaia between the end of October and the beginning of November 2018, until reaching forcella Pongol (1549 m above sea level). After crossing the evocative and at times rugged inlet, you arrive at the Folega plateau. The enchanting clearing frames a stone bivouac located at 1547 metres above sea level, at the foot of Monte Celo.
From here, take trail CAI 545, which leads into the woods until it reaches the small shrine of the “Madonna della Schiara”; then take the road marked CAI 542, which descends through the wooded slope to the sports field in the hamlet of Conaggia, located less than a kilometre from the town hall of La Valle Agordina.
The church of San Michele Arcangelo
Built on the ruins of a medieval church, this 18th-century place of worship stands out for a gabled façade softened by a fine rose window. The latter is set between the doorway, crowned by a broken triangular pediment, and a quatrefoil opening placed at the top of the front façade.
Lit by a series of semicircular windows, the church’s single nave houses paintings of rare workmanship, a fine wooden altar and a precious tabernacle made by Andrea Brustolon.
Sagra della Madonna de La Neif
