Hike in Sedico: from Bolago to the Val Montareze Waterfall
The starting point of the route is the parking area of the “Bruno Fant” municipal field in Via Libano. From here, on clear days, you are enchanted by the spectacular bulk of the Dolomite peaks that surround this lovely place immersed in greenery and silence.
At the junction with Via Barp, turn left and head northwest for 550 metres towards the village of the same name, dotted with ancient stone and wooden houses. After passing an old stone house (dairy, house no. 12), turn left and follow the winding asphalt road that leads to the cemetery of Barp. After the cemetery, continue south until you reach the deconsecrated church of Santa Maria Nascente in Valdenère di Bolago.
Announced in the distance by the pinnacle of its soaring bell tower, the centuries-old building stands on a grassy hill from which there is a striking view of the Valbelluna and the imposing mountains on the horizon. After admiring the landscape, return to Via Barp and cross the village, continuing slightly uphill towards the northwest, then leave the guesthouse “Vecchia Fattoria” on your left.
Continue along Via Barp for 650 metres, then turn left and follow Via Sommaval for about 1.5 km towards the centre of Bolago, where the splendid exposed-brick church of the Saints Faustino and Giovita in Libàno stands, built in the 19th century and consecrated at the dawn of the 20th.
At the junction, turn right into Via Bolago and continue for 1 km along the road that descends the sunny, tree-lined slope, then take Via Val di Fontana and venture into the dense woodland of black locusts, hazels, firs, poplars and many other shrubs and lush tall trees.
After 650 metres, keep right on Via Giovanni de Min and continue for about 1 km along the road that looks onto the Oratory of the Madonna del Sonno – Pescul. At the junction with Via Casate, by a charming shrine, turn right, pass the cemetery of Peron and continue along Via Antonio Gramsci until you reach State Road 203.
Turn right and continue for 170 metres, then turn left and cross the Peron pedestrian bridge, from which there is a breathtaking panoramic view of the crystal-clear Piave, Monte di San Salvatore of the Schiara group.
After crossing the bridge, turn right and head north along the route that follows the course of the river sacred to the homeland. The pleasant trail unfolds at the foot of the Monti del Sole in Località Gottardi, leading into the lush nature reserve where the toad pond and the duck pond lie, with their icy turquoise waters.
The final part of the route passes through Località Salet, stretching along the edge of the bright meadow area, enclosed by a wooden fence, where the horses of the Equestrian Centre of the State Forestry Corps graze. The route continues along the ancient Via degli Ospizi until, via a wooden walkway, it leads to the extraordinary waterfall, a must-see destination for hiking enthusiasts wondering what to do in Sedico.
