Discover what to do in Galzignano Terme: the Monte Venda trail, trail n°10, Galzignano Beer Fest. Want to know more? First of all…
Where is Galzignano Terme?
The municipality of Galzignano Terme borders to the north with Torreglia, to the northwest with Teolo, to the south with Arquà Petrarca, to the southeast with Monselice, to the southwest with Baone, to the east with Montegrotto Terme and Battaglia Terme, to the west with Vo’, Cinto Euganeo and Baone.
The Monte Venda trail
The starting point of the trail is Casa Marina at Via Sottovenda, 3. Proceed southwest along Via Sottovenda for 400 meters, then turn right onto the dirt road that leads to the Venda amphitheater, a radiant grassy slope bordered to the south by a lush vineyard, to the north by the flourishing woodland vegetation covering the mountain. At the wooden stage, you can enjoy a charming view of the pleasant slopes of the Euganean Hills dotted with tiny red roofs that from this distance resemble mosaic tiles.
At the fork, turn right as indicated by the signage of trail n°1.
The Olivetani monastery
To reach the monastery, one of the most significant destinations of the itinerary, turn left following the signage “Olivetani – Corno del Venda”.
The dirt trail becomes steeper and winds along the side of the mountain through a series of short wooden and dirt steps. Upon reaching a fork, keep left uphill. Where the vegetation thins, giving way to a breathtaking panorama, keep right until you reach a concrete post with a yellow arrow. The path narrows slightly among trees and stones until it leads to an electrical pylon, after which keep right, then continue straight until you reach your destination.
After visiting the medieval monastery of San Giovanni Battista, leave the imposing stone architectural work behind you. Pass through a small gate and take the winding path that leads to a charming wooden house. Keep right following the signage of trails n° 4, 2 until you rejoin the path you took on the way out and retrace your steps back to the starting point.
Il sentiero n° 10 del Monte Gallo, delle Grotte e delle Basse
Unless prohibited, you can leave your car in the square in front of the restaurant dalla Teresa at Via Roverello, 1.
The parking lot at Via Roverello, 10 is closer to the start of the trail; in this case as well, make sure there are no restrictions.
Proceed south on Via Roverello and pass the Soccorso Stradale Tm. Car. Service, then turn into the small street on your left shaded by black locusts, oaks, elms, and hornbeams.
At the first fork, keep right; at the second, keep left. The dirt path offers extraordinary views of the pristine environment of the suggestive wooded mountains of volcanic origin. At the next fork, keep left again. From the dominant position of the ridge of Monte Gallo, you can see on the horizon, to the southeast, the mountains Piccolo, Calbarina, Ricco and the Rocca di Monselice.
The itinerary crosses the peaks of Monte della Grotta, Monte di Castellazzo and delle Basse, finally emerging at Via Cengolina, near the restaurant da Castegna.
If you are wondering what to do in Galzignano Terme, trail n° 10 is a pleasant excursion that for 3.5 km and with an elevation gain of 300 meters winds through some of the most fascinating peaks of the Euganean Hills, cloaked in ancient trees, dotted with silver olive trees, and crossed by orderly rows of vines resting on sun-drenched slopes.
