The Schivanoia waterfall
One of the most photogenic spots in the municipality of Teolo, the Schivanoia waterfall is reachable via a tree-lined path that starts from hairpin turn n°3 in Via Guglielmo Marconi (45.33714157690402, 11.679057331100987).
Another entrance is located at the Agriturismo Colle del Barbarossa.
Shaded by chestnut, ash and beech trees, the path crosses a sunny grassy expanse and runs alongside a clear stream before leading to the splendid waterfall, a recommended destination for anyone looking for an isolated and quiet place to be lulled by the roaring sound of a crystal-clear cascade immersed in greenery.
Trail 2 of the Central Euganean Hills
With a height difference of 1100 meters, the route winds for just over 15 kilometers through the wooded slopes of the Central Euganean Hills. The starting point is in the locality of Case Zuccato in Villa di Teolo, near the Associazione l’Albero, Via Calti Pendice, 7.
Leave the entrance gate of the Associazione l’Albero on your right and proceed along Via Calti Pendice until you reach a small bridge, after crossing which you will find the signs for trail 2.
Proceed south along the dirt path that runs alongside the stream, then keep left on the uphill paved road that goes into the lush forest vegetation. After about 270 meters continue along the steep stone road until you reach a series of rural buildings.
At this point keep right towards the spectacular bulk of Rocca Pendice. After about 350 meters take the path on your left that climbs up the wooded height. Soon you find yourself surrounded by the primordial and uncontaminated environment of a steep hill of volcanic origin covered with ferns, dotted with moss-veiled boulders overshadowed by the fronds of tall ash, acacia, Turkey oak, hornbeam, oak and holm oak trees.
Keep left and go up the wooden and dirt staircase that winds along the edges of the mountain wall, after which you will face one of the most challenging sections of the route.
The trail requires climbing about 15 meters of a rugged bare rock section with the aid of a chain. The effort of the climb is rewarded by the breathtaking view of the thousand-year-old ruins of the Speronella castle, from whose dominant position one can embrace the boundless natural scenery outlined by the sinuous profile of the Euganean Hills.
From the majestic bulwark, descend the hillside towards the parish of San Biagio following the signs for trail 2, paying attention to the roots protruding from the surface of the path. The trail emerges onto Via Castelnuovo (45.33125229478567, 11.686227229771498). Turn right and proceed for about 140 meters, then turn left into Via Ronco. After about 250 meters you will find on your left the dirt entrance that leads to the Corno del Venda.
Crossing a lush vineyard, keep left and follow the appropriate signs for trail 2. A western branch of the relief, the Corno del Venda is one of the highest peaks of the route, with an altitude of 510 meters above sea level.
From the Corno del Venda turn left and after two hairpin turns turn left as indicated by the number 2 painted on a tree.
After visiting the solemn medieval Olivetan monastery, one of the most significant and fascinating historical landmarks of the municipality, proceed along trail 2 towards Pirio-Villa.
Reaching the paved road turn right and shortly after keep right again on trail 2. Reaching Via Siesa turn right for about 200 meters, then turn left into Via Cicogna Pirio, then keep left again on Via Cicogna Pirio. At a fork (45.33294390357784, 11.694908967051843) keep right uphill.
The trail emerges at the Agriturismo Ca’ Noale Restaurant in Via Cicogna Pirio, 21. Keep left on Via Pirio until you reach the top of the mountain with the same name. After completing the descent (45.3399171960825, 11.70100742127155) turn right, then, at a charming stone building (45.33962856247672, 11.70323229299278), turn left. Pass the centuries-old rustic building, take the first gravel road on the left that leads to the white alpine church surrounded by gentle slopes furrowed by vineyards.
At the fork keep left on the slightly downhill path flanked by silver olive trees. After crossing a lively stream and going through the woods, you will arrive at a white road that leads back to the starting point.
