Trail n°9
With a length of 5.5 km and 220 meters of elevation gain, the pleasant nature trail is also suitable for inexperienced hikers and offers wonderful views of the fertile, sunny slopes of volcanic origin covered with a lush woodland.
To undertake the pleasant nature itinerary, you can leave your car in the Lorenzoni trail parking lot on Via Sottovenda, in the neighboring town of Cinto Euganeo. The first section of the route, slightly sloping and completely paved, goes into the lush tree vegetation until leading, after about 1 km, to one of the most significant stages of the excursion, namely the chestnut trees of Venda.
The chestnut forest
Also known as maronari, these long-lived plants of the Fagaceae family are distinguished by majestic and imposing trunks furrowed with deep cavities similar to caves covered with dark bark veiled with moss.
Enchanting in every season, the chestnut trees are especially evocative during the autumn foliage, when the dense golden crowns offer sweet fruits enclosed in thick, spiny husks, then giving way, in the winter season, to a thick blanket of long, knotty, bare branches.
After visiting the charming pond surrounded by maronari, follow the signs for trail n° 9 to the Lorenzoni trail. To complete the loop, join trail n° 4 G.G. Lorenzoni and follow the directions for ALTA VIA. At the fork, proceed along a section of trail n° 1 which will later rejoin the Lorenzoni trail.
Reach the fork located just before a stream, continue along trail n° 2, then, after a short climb, continue along trail n° 4 towards Casa Brombolina. At the next fork, rejoin the Altavia. Past a private property with an electrified fence on your right, keep left until you reach the paved road.
Keep left following trail n° 4 towards Olivetani, Casa Marina. Shortly after, take the dirt road on the right. Follow the signs for Casa Marina and retake trail n° 1. Just before returning to the starting point, you will find the Venda amphitheater on your left.
The fox spring
At the Laghetto del Venda there are signs that lead to the fox spring, a clear body of water with a clay bottom where various species of amphibians find their habitat, including frogs and salamanders, but you can also meet cute hedgehogs and dragonflies with bright, iridescent metallic reflections.
If you are wondering what to do in Vo’, trail n° 9 is an easy route from which you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the gentle wooded slopes of the Euganean Hills.
