Where is Alpago?
The municipality of Alpago borders north on Erto e Casso, to the southeast on Fregona, to the southwest on Vittorio Veneto, to the east on Claut, Chies d’Alpago and Tambre, and to the west on Soverzene, Ponte nelle Alpi and Belluno.

According to the liturgical calendar, July 26 is the day dedicated to Saint Anne, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who lived in Jerusalem between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. In the municipality of Pieve d’Alpago, the celebration in her honor can also take place in the days before and after this date.
The 2024 edition of the sagra of Pieve d’Alpago took place from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28. This traditional event combines the solemnity of Holy Mass with the cheerful, carefree atmosphere of a lively popular festival enlivened by ballroom dancing evenings, rock concerts and DJs, market exhibitions and tastings of local cheeses, polenta pastin and many other exquisite local specialties.

Hike in Alpago
Lake Santa Croce
The starting point of the itinerary is P1 Lago Santa Croce (paid parking) in Viale al Lago. Head east, leaving the entrance to the hotel-restaurant “Alla Spiaggia” at Viale Al Lago, 5, 32016 Farra D’Alpago on your left, then take the Via Regia cycle path that crosses the Runal stream. Follow the pristine dirt path for a mile and a half, running along the shore of the clear body of water in the shade of ash trees, black locusts, poplars, hazels, elms and many other lush shrubs and tall plants, including splendid aquatic trees.
After passing the roadside shrine of Madonna del Lago – Poiatte, framed by a small wooden bell tower, leave the Alpago sailing center on your right and continue along the cycle path until you come out onto Via Poiatte. Turn left toward the intersection with the SP 423. Cross at the pedestrian crossing, take Via Poiatte and cross the village of the same name dotted with stone houses, where an old fountain stands. Continue uphill until you find the “nordic walking” signs (46.10674169126558, 12.355114315465656).
The scenic route that climbs the green wooded slope runs alongside a charming rural house with a double-pitched wooden roof located on Via Pianture. At the intersection, cross the road, pass a lively watercourse and continue along Via Pianture, entering a landscape of maples, ash trees, firs and black locusts. Along the road you will find a striking fountain carved out of a trunk from which crystal-clear water flows.
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Runal
Once you reach the wooden shrine, keep left and take the Sentiero Madonna del Runal – Spert – Campon path, then shortly after take the left-hand fork and proceed along the scenic route heading east, to reach the summit of the mountain.
Once you reach the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Runal, the route descends to the northeast, plunging into a fairy-tale landscape crossed by icy streams and cloaked in lush woods animated by the roar of gushing little waterfalls. An ancient Roman stone bridge crosses the Runal stream, whose clear waters flow briskly among rocks veiled in moss. The final part of the route winds westward along Via Buscole.
