Val Gallina Lake
Starting from the cemetery of Soverzene in Via Roma (46.201724569121964, 12.304254382827496), head north along the SP 11 to the roundabout. Take the third exit and follow Via Val Gallina for 550 metres. At the fork, near a stone and masonry votive shrine, keep right and cross a bright grassy stretch along the road that climbs up the steep mountainside, from whose panoramic position, looking westward, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Monte Serva, Monte Zervoi and Monte Pelf.
After the eighth hairpin bend, after about 450 metres, cross the tunnel (unlit) and continue east for about a kilometre and a half, following the asphalt road shaded by birches, black locusts, firs, willows, walnut trees and many other lush tall trees. Proceed along the route that runs parallel to the valley carved by the Gallina stream, then at the fork keep left downhill and continue for 750 metres until you reach a large square located a short distance from the dam.
An imposing mid-20th-century hydraulic engineering work, the Val Gallina dam offers extraordinary views from its eighty-nine-metre height over the deep reservoir and the spectacular wooded peaks that are reflected in its clear, icy waters.
Bicycle ride from Soverzene to Castello Lavazzo
The starting point of the itinerary is the cemetery car park in Via Roma, a short distance from the Achille Gaggia Hydroelectric Plant. At the junction with provincial road 11, turn right and continue for 600 metres to the roundabout, take the third exit and follow Via Val Gallina for 450 metres until you find, on your left, the entrance to the Pista Ciclabile Via Regia.
The pleasant asphalt cycle path offers evocative views of the dense forest vegetation bordered by the Piave and of the majestic slopes of Monte Zervoi, Monte Dolada, Col Mat, Col Nudo and Monte Toc, whose grand mass dominates the crystal-clear waters of Val Gallina Lake.
We pass under the Ponte sul Piave and keep right to the junction, turn left and proceed uphill slightly, then turn left again onto the road shaded by a black hornbeam.
After the underpass, keep left and cross Provagna, a pretty village dotted with centuries-old exposed-stone houses, passing alongside the Church of Saints Fermo and Rustico. At the junction, turn right and continue north on Via Dogna. After about 3 km you reach the settlement of Codissago, a picturesque hamlet at the foot of Monte Salta from which several routes branch off leading to the Ferrata Falesia di Casso, the Vajont dam and the Falesia di Erto.
After crossing the Ponte sul Piave, keep right on Via Giovanni Uberti towards the centre of Castello Lavazzo, the final stop of the route, where you will find the Museo della Pietra e degli Scalpellini and the Chiesa Pievanale dei Santi Quirico e Giulitta, towering on a steep rocky hill.
