The San Rocco Festival
The liturgical calendar commemorates San Rocco on August 16. In the municipality of Albaredo d’Adige, the feast in honor of the saint also takes place on the days before and after this date. The 2023 edition of the San Rocco festival took place from Sunday 13 to Wednesday 22 August and Monday 27 August at the parish center.
As every year, the event features large and comfortable dining areas where you can choose between homemade and gourmet specialties that enhance local products and recipes, from grilled ribeye to the renowned risotto with straculo (a prized cut of beef from the rear quarter), from tasty roast with potatoes and grilled vegetables, to be savored with local wine excellences and cold pints of beer, to the delicious grandmother’s cake, just to mention some of the tempting typical dishes of the event menu.
The festival program includes vintage motorcycle and car gatherings, zero-kilometer markets, the rich charity raffle, dance evenings with orchestras and electrifying tribute band concerts to relive some of the greatest successes of Italian and international rock music.
Sports enthusiasts can participate in engaging naturalistic itineraries as part of the ‘Caminada dei tre archi’, organized in three cycle-pedestrian routes of 7, 8 and 12 km that wind through the enchanting rural landscape of the Bassa Veronese.
If you are wondering what to do in Albaredo d’Adige, the San Rocco festival reconciles the solemnity of the procession and holy mass with the jovial and carefree atmosphere of a traditional village fair, featuring live music, dance evenings, exciting fireworks displays and top-quality food and wine specialties in the serene setting of a welcoming rural village crossed by the Adige.

The church of Santa Maria Assunta
Located at Via Chiesa, 25, the church of Santa Maria Assunta overlooks a charming square paved with cobblestones framed by palms, maples, lindens, hackberries, cedars and cypresses.
The neoclassical façade of the majestic place of worship is vertically divided into three parts by four Ionic pilasters, above which stand the architrave, frieze and triangular pediment crowned by a stone cross.
Reachable via four white steps, the massive wooden portal is flanked by Ionic columns supporting a projecting triangular tympanum surmounted by a metal cross. Above the portal stands an elegant circular opening set in a molded frame.
Inside, the church is adorned with splendid polychrome marble altars, sculptures and gilded ornaments, and a rare pipe organ.
If you are wondering what to do in Albaredo d’Adige, the church of Santa Maria Assunta is one of the most important spiritual, artistic and cultural landmarks of the community.
The panorama of the Adige River
Starting from the parking lot on Via dei Barcari, proceed east along the cycle-pedestrian path shaded by long rows of plane trees towards the ‘Renato Simoni’ middle school. At the intersection with Via del Sole, turn right. At the next intersection, turn left onto Via Teiolo. After 150 meters, take Via Lora on your right. At the end of the street, unless prohibited, keep right onto the asphalted road that leads to the top of the embankment and turn left.
For about 2 km, the path offers suggestive views of the Adige and the lush vegetation of elms, oaks, acacias, ashes, hornbeams, willows and many other tall trees that grow luxuriantly along the winding banks of the river.
