Villa Ruzzini
Located at Via Caltana, 156, Villa Ruzzini is one of the most significant cultural landmarks of the municipality. Currently the town hall, the Renaissance manor is accessible via a double-ramp staircase. The entrance to the main floor is preceded by a refined pronaos in which six Ionic columns support the dentilled triangular pediment.
Of notable interest is the extraordinary cycle of frescoes dedicated to Marco Ruzzini, a captain in the service of the Republic of Venice in the mid-14th century.
The spectacular paintings depict the naval battle between Venetians and Genoese off the island of Euboea and the landing of Marco Ruzzini in Venice with ships laden with treasures that the Venetians had managed to loot from the Genoese galleys.
La chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta di Murelle
Located at Via Cornara, 106, the majestic neo-Gothic church is distinguished by a double-pitched façade flanked by two soaring bell towers. The wooden portal is surmounted by a pointed lunette decorated with a dazzling depiction of Mary surrounded by angels.
The portal and lunette are set in an architectural frame flanked by two spires. The upper register features an elaborate rose window whose whiteness creates a striking contrast with the red brick wall.
Illuminated by elegant triple windows, the single nave of the church is embellished with valuable frescoes, altars in polychrome marble from the 17th century and a precious work, housed in the apse, depicting ‘The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary’, dating between the 16th and 17th centuries.
If you are wondering what to do in Villanova di Camposampiero, the church of Santa Maria di Murelle is pervaded by an austere and solemn atmosphere that invites serene and silent contemplation of the formidable sculptural and artistic heritage preserved inside.
