The feast of Saint Euphemia
The 2023 edition of the popular recurrence is scheduled from Friday 16 to Tuesday 20 June at the church of Saint Euphemia. Euphemia was a young martyr who lived between the 2nd and 3rd centuries in Bithynia (historical geographic area of northern Turkey extending to the Bosphorus), martyred during the period of Christian repression by order of Diocletian.
On the occasion of the event, large and comfortable tent structures will be set up where you can enjoy sandwiches rich in cold cuts as well as ribs, sausages, and grilled chops with polenta and fried potatoes, to pair with cold mugs of beer and local wines.
If you are wondering what to do in Borgoricco, the event program also includes football matches and dance evenings where you can let loose to the rhythm of talented DJs.
The parish of Saint Euphemia
Located in Via della Pieve, 31, the parish of Saint Euphemia stands out for a imposing red brick structure topped by a double-pitched roof. The imposing facade is embellished in the center by three striking mosaic works. Set in a lunette, the lower mosaic depicts Mary, Saint Euphemia on the left, Saint Valentine on the right. The central mosaic represents a splendid sky, framed by fifteen stars, in which a dove with spread wings stands out. In the top mosaic, enclosed by a large round arch, two angels flank an elaborate stone rose window adorned with trilobed arches. At the top of the arch is the inscription “D.O.M. in hon S.EUPHEMIAE”.
