Where is Grisignano di Zocco?
The municipality of Grisignano di Zocco borders to the north with Camisano Vicentino, to the south with Veggiano, to the southeast with Mestrino, to the southwest with Montegalda, to the east with Campodoro, to the west with Grumolo delle Abbadesse and Montegalda.
The ancient Soco fair
The cheerful popular celebration takes place every year in September. The 2023 edition will take place from September 8 to 14.
Just like the fairs of Santa Lucia di Piave and of Godega di Sant’Urbano, the ancient Soco fair has handed down since the early Middle Ages the ancestral bond that unites human beings with work in the fields and the care of animals, activities based on respect for a fertile, healthy land, bearer of life and considered sacred for the riches that derive from it.
The event commemorates the ancient belief according to which the Virgin Mary appeared on the stump of a tree in the fabulous setting of the Vicenza plain where, between seven and eight hundred years ago, a flourishing community dedicated to agriculture arose.
On the occasion of the late-summer countryside celebration, the squares and tree-lined streets of the urban center fill with pavilions displaying local handicrafts, artisan workshops illustrating scenes of daily medieval life, educational farms as well as tasting points and large dining areas where you can savor mouth-watering gastronomic specialties: from decadent spit-roasted meat dishes and wood-fired pizzas to exquisite risottos that you can pair with native wine excellences and mugs of top-quality beer.
The event includes vast areas dedicated both to modern attractions, like the whirling mechanical rides illuminated by electric lights, such as the loop fighter, roller coasters, flying chairs, and slam bob, and to playful activities our ancestors enjoyed, like archery and medieval fencing.
If you are wondering what to do in Grisignano di Zocco and wish to spend the cool late-summer evenings enjoying lip-smacking culinary specialties, have fun to the rhythm of talented rock bands, attend vintage car exhibitions, admire breathtaking firework displays, the ancient Soco fair is an unmissable event!
Villa Ferramosca
Marked on the ground floor by a sumptuous Tuscan colonnade, the majestic 16th-century residence features on the main floor, in central position, an elegant loggia above which stand out the architrave and the triangular pediment embellished by a noble coat of arms.
The adjacent building, whose northwest-facing facade features a loggia with round arches, is connected to the main body and the barchessa through a white Tuscan-order colonnade.
A further element of architectural value is the place of worship dedicated to Saint Anthony visible from Via Vittorio Veneto.
Distinguished by a gabled facade ending with three acroteria, the chapel is accessible through a wooden portal above which opens a small semicircular niche.
Molino Benedetti
Set in the heart of the Grisignanese urban center, the industrial complex is one of the most suggestive panoramic spots in the municipality.
From Via Bedinella, in the shadow of the prickly crowns of four maritime pines, on the right you can see a massive staircase made of light stone blocks veiled by a blanket of grass. On the left, a dense succession of wooden poles delimits a wooded islet lapped by the Tesinella river, whose waters power the metal wheel of the mill flanked by the lock.
Dominating the background of the landscape are the mushroom-shaped concrete water tower and the imposing cylindrical mass of huge silos attacked by rust.
If you are wondering what to do in Grisignano di Zocco and are looking for a fascinating perspective for a photograph, the Molino Benedetti certainly deserves a visit.
