Where is Mogliano Veneto?
The municipality of Mogliano Veneto borders to the north with Preganziol, to the northeast with Zero Branco, to the northwest with Casale sul Sile, to the south with Venice, to the east with Casale sul Sile and Marcon, to the west with Zero Branco and Scorzè.
Geography of the Municipality
The municipality of Mogliano Veneto extends over more than 46 km² in the southernmost part of the province of Treviso.
The territory of the municipality, predominantly flat and crossed by numerous watercourses (the main ones being the Zero and the Dese) and several aquifers, is characterized by a clayey soil that helps retain water on the surface, making the land particularly fertile.
The presence of numerous parks, ancient gardens, and splendid villas makes the municipality a must-see destination for nature and art lovers.
Marocco of Mogliano Veneto: The Quarries
A must-see destination for any nature lover, the Marocco Quarries extend for about 20 hectares at the southern end of the municipality on the border with the province of Venice.
The environmental context of the quarries features shallow natural basins crossed by reed beds, sedge beds (predominantly marshy lands where plants of the sedge genus abound), and willow thickets, where you can find the grey willow (Salix cinerea), the marsh fern (Thelypteris palustris), and the alder buckthorn (Frangula alnus).
The richness of the water element favors the development of lush and luxuriant vegetation, characterized by notable arboreal and floral diversity. This is demonstrated by the forest located west of the diversion channel (a channel designed to divert floodwaters of a river into diversion canals), where you can admire specimens of field maple (Acer campestre), field elm (Ulmus minor), black alder (Alnus glutinosa), and white poplar (Populus alba).
Numerous observations and analyses carried out in the area have revealed the presence of some plant and animal species at risk due to the reduction of their habitat, including:
the Common water lily (Nymphaea alba), a floating aquatic plant typical of marshy environments, whose flower ranges from white to soft pink to red; the Fringed water lily (Nymphoides peltata), found in stagnant environments and recognizable by its beautiful yellow flowers.
The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), or European pond turtle, is a protected species characterized by colors ranging from yellow to dark green and a rather long tail in both males and females. Its presence attests to the healthiness of this wonderful yet fragile natural microcosm.
The Villas in the Municipality of Mogliano Veneto
Villa Longobardi
Located on Via Giovanni Berchet, Villa Longobardi is a splendid example of a 19th-century Veneto villa.
Renovated and expanded during the 19th century, the splendid architectural complex includes, in addition to the manor house, service buildings including a stable, a hayloft, and the caretaker’s house.
Converted into a hotel in the 1940s, the villa includes a wonderful park created at the beginning of the 19th century that has remained almost unchanged.
Villa Braida
In addition to the scenic beauty offered by the lush and luxuriant nature, the municipality of Mogliano has historical and cultural riches of notable interest, as evidenced by the numerous noble and ancient villas built in the area.
A wonderful example is Villa Braida, whose main building, surrounded by a vast and regal garden, develops over three floors and is flanked by two lateral barchesse, typical elements of Veneto villas that served as service buildings, used as warehouses and homes for farmers and laborers.
Villa Condulmer
A majestic 19th-century building, Villa Condulmer was built where an ancient abbey once stood. The central body of the noble palace follows the traditional Venetian scheme and is flanked by two barchesse, one of which might belong to the ruins of the pre-existing monastery.
The interiors of the patrician villa feature wonderful frescoes in excellent state of preservation, as well as furniture of fine craftsmanship and elegantly decorated, worthy of a royal palace.
Villa Condulmer is now a magnificently restored luxury hotel immersed in a vast and refined garden meticulously maintained.
Villa Volpi
The construction of Villa Volpi, located on Via Terraglio, 105, dates back to the second half of the 16th century and was carried out based on the design of the magnificent Veneto architect Andrea Palladio (Padua, November 30, 1508 – Maser, August 19, 1580).
The charming rustic annex was obtained from a 17th-century mill, whose ancient stones with the corresponding holes for inserting the wheel axles can still be admired today.
The noble residence, carefully restored and converted into a luxury hotel, is recognizable by its noble façade characterized by four refined pilasters on which the pediment stands out.
