Conegliano Castle

In-depth look at Conegliano Castle
Surrounded by high walls topped with an elegant Ghibelline battlement, the imposing structure is recognizable by its majestic bell tower, whose chimes once formally opened the City Council.
Near the defensive keep stands the Saracen tower, once used as a gunpowder magazine, from whose commanding position you can admire moving scenic views of the gentle wooded hills dotted with farmhouses, which from this distance look like tiny pieces of a mosaic.

How to reach Conegliano Castle?

Starting from Piazza Cima, walk northwest along Via Accademia, then continue uphill alongside the walls built during the brief period of Carraresi rule in the 14th century, in some places covered by a dense blanket of climbing vegetation. The path winds along the wooded slope until it reaches the church of Madonna della Neve, then leads on to the spectacular fortress.
Alternatively, you can leave your car in the municipal car park on Via dei Pascoli and take the Cammino della Porta del Soccorso, which runs into the thick woodland vegetation (45.891520169266826, 12.293382281475912). If you are wondering what to do in Conegliano, the Cammino della Porta del Soccorso and the Carraresi Walls trail are two of the most beautiful historical and nature itineraries in the province of Treviso.

To get to the castle more quickly, you can leave your car in Piazzale di Castelvecchio and San Leonardo, which can be reached via Via Coderta and Viale Ferruccio Benini. Framed by maritime pines, the square overlooking the lovely church of Sant’Orsola offers breathtaking views of the hilly landscape, crossed by lush vineyards, and of the outline of the mountains covered in woods stretching to the horizon.
Framed by tall, dark cypresses, the top of the hill is made even more graceful by an Italian-style garden, at the center of which stands a well decorated with floral motifs.
If you are wondering what to do in Conegliano and cannot resist the charm of ancient strongholds towering over lovely sunny slopes, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Piazza Giovanni Battista Cima

The cultural and social heart of the city, Piazza Giovanni Battista Cima is bordered to the northwest by the imposing facade of Teatro Accademia, whose entrance is guarded by two solemn sphinxes, to the south by the arcades of Via XX settembre, to the east by the town hall, and to the west by a row of historic buildings housing the famous Caffè al Teatro.
Conegliano Cathedral
Located in Via XX settembre, Conegliano Cathedral is recognizable by its enchanting loggia with nine pointed arches above which elegant round-headed triple-light windows open onto the Sala dei Battuti.
Marked by wide round arches, the three naves of the church of Santa Maria Annunziata e San Leonardo preserve, beneath white ribbed vaults, late-15th-century paintings depicting Santo Stefano and San Lorenzo, the baptism of Christ, as well as fine marble altars, a refined wooden crucifix and a work by Giovanni Battista Cima, La Sacra Conversazione, placed in the presbytery.
One of the most captivating frescoes visible on the facade, for the quality of its details and its striking perspective, depicts the Blessed Virgin assisting the brothers in a vessel at the mercy of a stormy sea.
Sala dei Battuti
The staircase near the cathedral entrance leads to the large hall dedicated to the Battuti, a brotherhood devoted to works of charity and self-mortification. Topped by an elaborate wooden ceiling, the walls of the hall are embellished with depictions of the life of Christ by Giovanni da Milano and Ludovico Pozzoserrato.
If you are wondering what to do in Conegliano, the Cathedral and the Sala dei Battuti are certainly worth a visit!
Palazzo Sarcinelli – Comune di Conegliano

Located in via XX Settembre, 132, this 16th-century palace is lightened on the ground floor by an airy portico marked by wide round arches. The five arches are supported by pillars decorated with vegetal motifs and depictions of human faces.
On the noble floor stands a balustraded mullioned window with four lights, marked by Ionic columns, with four single-light windows opening beside it, also balustraded. Piazza IV Novembre
Bounded by Ponte S. Martino and Via XI febbraio, Piazza IV Novembre is adorned with a white bubbling fountain surrounded by a well-kept lawn.
At the center of the square stands a marble monument commemorating the devastation of the two world wars. Surrounded by maritime pines, cedars, magnolias, palms and mountain pines, the stone monument on which the names of the fallen of the First World War are engraved is topped by a bronze sculptural group depicting the personification of the fatherland, a tall, broad-shouldered woman wearing a laurel crown and holding the body of an almost completely naked soldier, lifeless but still with his sword in hand.
The Poseidon fountain

Located between Via Guglielmo Marconi and Corso Vittori Emanuele II, the Neptune fountain consists of a circular stone basin from which the sea god rises proudly, trident in hand.
The deity sits on a large shell pulled by two hippocamps, mythological creatures part horse and part fish. The two galloping animals, with a regal bearing, have thick manes and two side fins emerge from their scale-covered bodies. Clear streams of water flow from their nostrils.
If you are wondering what to do in Conegliano, the Neptune fountain is a remarkable monument just a few steps from the historic heart of the city.
