One of the cultural hubs in the historic heart of Conegliano, the birthplace of Giovanni battista Cima (1459 or 1460; 1517 or 1518) is located in Via G. B. Cima, 24, between the former convent of San Francesco and the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta and San Leonardo.
Documents from 1516 and 1578 enabled Vincenzo Botteon and Antonio Aliprandi, scholars of the celebrated artist, to identify the painter’s house. Restored to its former splendor thanks to the patronage of Camillo Vazzoler (1897; 1977), the Renaissance painter’s residence displays on the ground floor a striking collection of ceramic finds, pots, carinated cups and dolii from the Bronze Age (14th-13th century BC) unearthed during the restoration works.
On the upper floor, where the painter’s actual home was located, charming and welcoming, there is an autograph inscription by Giovanni Battista Cima on the 15th-century plaster: “1492 adì 9 otubrio”.
Home to the Fondazione Cima, created to promote lectures and studies on the artist, Casa Cima displays faithful reproductions of the painter’s works.
