Located in Via Stazione, 5, Villa Emo is a spectacular 16th-century architectural complex built in the heart of Fanzolo, Vedelago (TV).
Architecture of Villa Emo

Commissioned by Leonardo Emo, the Palladian villa-farm was designed and built around 1558. The elements that make up the noble architectural complex are arranged according to a skilful hierarchical layout.
Accessible via an elegant ramp, the central body of the villa rests on a high base. The southern façade of the residential core is marked by a classical pronaos with four Doric columns, above which stand the entablature and the triangular pediment. The tympanum is ennobled by the Emo family coat of arms.

Beyond the vestibule, you enter the central hall, with three rooms symmetrically arranged on either side. Connected to the noble residence on the east and west sides, the long, straight porticoed barchesse are marked by eleven arches each, supported by pillars.

Ended at the ends by two dovecote towers, taller and set further back, the airy barchesse were intended to house the cellars, granaries and stables.
With these words, Andrea Palladio described their function: “one can move around under cover everywhere … so that neither rain nor the scorching summer sun may trouble the Lord when going to see to his affairs. They are of the greatest
usefulness for storing timber under cover and, in short, other things from the villa… and they add much ornament.”
The architect’s mastery is reflected in his ability to translate, through the simplicity and essentiality of forms, the balance between the functionality of the architectural complex and the ideal of classical proportions.
The frescoes of Villa Emo

Completed in 1565 on the occasion of the marriage of Leonardo Emo to Cornelia Grimani, the fresco cycle created by Giovanni Battista Zelotti (Verona, 1526 – Mantua, 1578), companion and collaborator of Paolo Veronese, enriches the interiors of the piano nobile with episodes from mythology and Roman history, and with allegories that promote temperance, the control of passions and marital virtues.

The garden and the village

The noble architectural complex is harmoniously set in a lovely garden dotted with white sculptures and scattered with tall cypresses, stone pines, majestic cypresses, fir trees and other flourishing tall trees.
The avenue leading to the entrance of the property continues at the back, crossing the vast estate and, intersecting with the horizontal axis traced by the barchesse, defines the harmonious synthesis between the architectural and landscape elements of the sumptuous property.
The extraordinary beauty of Villa Emo, together with the enchanting village that stretches southwards parallel to the villa, transports visitors into a dimension suspended in time, where the lovely setting of an old rural hamlet, the glorious splendour of the Venetian aristocracy and the genius of Palladian architecture converge in a magnificent balance preserved with care over the centuries.
