Discovering plants and nature with expert landscape architects: βtrees are the sentinels of nature, colors tell us about the seasons

Verona/Vicenza, 28 November 2024 β We are heading toward the grand finale of the Foliage weeks curated by Adsi β Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane and Dimore Amiche del Veneto. This is a series of events designed to bring people closer to the knowledge of plants and the nature that surrounds them. In fact, each appointment is led by an expert.
To give us an idea of how plants are recognized, we asked a landscape architect for some guidance: Pamela Nichele holds a degree in park and garden design, studied at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Padua, and earned a landscape masterβs degree in Barcelona. At the 32nd edition of the Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival in 2023, she won the award for best Italian project. βTrees β Nichele explains β are the sentinels of the environment in which we live: they are excellent indicators of what is happening and of which season we are actually going through; so if it is true that one swallow does not make spring, it is also true that when the Ginko turns golden yellow we have truly entered autumn: nature always finds a way to βtell its storyβ, we just have to know how to catch its signals.β Speaking again of colors, Nichele goes on, βMaple or Liquidambar give us red tones, while Nyssa turns its leaves orange; to tie everything together with the right shades, the yellow-orange typical of Beech must not be missing.β
