It is admired in the parks of the Dimore Amiche del Veneto alongside experts who scientifically explain the magic of foliage.ย The Settimane del Foliage in Veneto continue: until 1 December, the Dimore Amiche del Venetoย โ an excellence network that brings together those Historic ADSI Residences (Associazione dimore Storiche Italiane, Veneto section) that are still lived in today by the families who have inhabited them for centuries โ are organizing guided tours led by landscape designers dedicated to the most romantic of autumn symbols.ย
Between Padova, Vicenza and Verona, Parco Frassanelle (Rovolon, PD), Villa Rosa (Tramonte, PD), Villa Valmarana ai Nani (Vicenza),ย the Castello di Thiene (Thiene, VI), Villa Sagramoso Sacchetti (Verona), Villa Angarano (Bassano del Grappa, VI) and Villa da Schio (Castelgomberto, VI) offer visitors the thrill of historic gardens transformed by the golden colours of autumn.ย
Among the must-see events are those with the landscape designers who have been following the parks of the Dimore Amiche for years. Pamela Nichele is one of them, a landscape designer who works in Italy and abroad, and she explains which trees transform the parks: โThe Ginko and the Lime tree are the two kings of yellow โ Nichele explains โ and when their leaves turn from green, then we know autumn has truly arrived. Nature always finds a way to โtell its storyโ; you just have to know how to catch its signs.โ Speaking again of colours, Nichele continues, โthe Maple or the Liquidambar give us red tones, while the Nyssa turns its leaves towards orange; to tie it all together with the right nuances, the yellow-orange typical of the Beech tree cannot be missing.โย ย
The foliage, in fact, is the autumnal change in the colour of tree leaves from green to yellow and to the various shades of red, caused by the decrease in chlorophyll: as sunlight decreases, the green colour becomes less visible and the other pigments prevail (no longer masked by chlorophyll), such as carotenoids, which give the typical yellow-brown colour. The red and purple hues of some plants, on the other hand, depend on a different group of pigments, anthocyanins, which, unlike carotenoids, are not always present in plants, but are produced in autumn. The natural event enchants thousands of people every year, fascinated by the countless shades that the woods offer visitors.
