Where is Stra?
The municipality of Stra borders to the north with Fiesso d’Artico, to the northeast with Dolo, to the northwest with Vigonza, to the southeast with Dolo and Fossò, to the southwest with Vigonovo.
Bike ride to Stra: the Riviera del Brenta and the historic center
The recommended cycling itinerary starts from the tree-lined parking lot in Piazza San Pietro, in front of the solemn structure of the parish church of Stra. Simple, elegant and unadorned, the white neoclassical façade is vertically tripartite by four pilasters resting on high bases and culminating with Ionic capitals, above which stands the triangular pediment.
Standing beside the church, the bell tower features on its exposed brick shaft evocative single-lancet windows that follow the vertical line of the structure. Above the round clock face with Roman numerals, the belfry is punctuated by a mullioned window with a parapet on each side. Covered by a blue patina due to bronze oxidation, the spire of the bell tower rests on a white octagonal drum and features at the top a finely crafted metal weather vane.
Villa Pisani: an example of stately architecture
Walk along Via Chiesa towards the Naviglio del Brenta until you see the magnificent bulk of Villa Pisani, one of the most majestic and representative examples of stately architecture in the Veneto.
Raised on three floors, the façade of the sumptuous noble complex is crowned by a triangular pediment adorned with acroteria at the vertices. Featuring on the main floor a wide and bright balcony with a parapet punctuated by tall Corinthian columns,
the Villa presents four caryatids visible on the ground floor of the façade, both structural elements and sculptural works depicting male figures, a significant reference to classical antiquity identifiable in the Erechtheion of Athens from the 5th century BC.
Inside, one of the most spectacular pictorial works of the Venetian eighteenth century is the cycle of frescoes created by Tiepolo in the Ballroom.
Reached the intersection between Via Barbariga Paluello and Via Roma, turn left onto Via Roma and continue for 550 meters along the Riviera del Brenta.
Towards the Park of Villa Pisani
After crossing the bridge in front of Villa Foscarini Rossi, turn left and then immediately right onto Via Tergola. After about 300 meters, cross the bridge on your right onto Via Bramante and then turn left along the path along the Tergola.
Once you reach the parking lot of the Stra swimming center, continue on Via Fiessetto for about 250 meters. At the intersection, turn left and immediately right along the dirt path that follows the course of the Tergola.
Continue for about 2 km along the path immersed in the rural scenery made up of vast cultivated extensions and evocative wooded areas.
Reaching Via Barbariga, cross the pedestrian crossing and continue for about 1 km to the intersection with Via Pioghella. Turn right and follow Via Pioghella for 1.2 km. At the end of the street, turn right and after 850 meters turn right again and follow Via Nazionale, from which you can admire the vast park and the enormous basin of Villa Pisani.
Return to the Starting Point
Continue along Via Nazionale to the intersection and turn right. After passing Villa Foscarini Rossi, turn left onto Via Riviera XXV Aprile and continue on Via IV November until you reach the lock of the Naviglio. Cross the lock and turn left onto Via Riviera Naviglio. Continue on Via Riviera Naviglio and Via Roma for 1.1 km, then turn right onto Via Chiesa and continue until you return to the starting point.
