Where is Vescovana?
The municipality of Vescovana borders to the north with Granze, to the north east with Stanghella, to the north west with Villa Estense, to the south with Rovigo, to the east with Stanghella and Boara Pisani, to the west with Sant’Urbano and Barbona.
Villa Pisani Bolognesi Scalabrin
Located at Via Roma, 25, Villa Pisani Bolognesi Scalabrin and the enchanting centuries-old garden in which it is harmoniously set represent one of the municipality’s most significant cultural and natural landmarks.
The Conti Bassi di Murena, governors of Pisa, moved with considerable wealth to Venice around the year 1000. Belonging to the Pisani di Santo Stefano branch, the noble family became owners of an estate that had belonged to the Este marquises and made it fertile through careful reclamation works.
Commissioned in the early 16th century, the stately residence served as the administrative headquarters of the landed property that the distinguished family had purchased from the Este Marquises and later made fertile and lush through careful reclamation works.
The sumptuous architectural complex consists of a majestic main building, arranged over three levels, to whose sides are connected two imposing porticoed barchesse marked by wide round arches.
Accessible via an elegant staircase, the villa is enhanced inside by priceless frescoes by Paolo Veronese, Giovanni Battista Zelotti, Alessandro Varotari and Ludovico Pozzoserrato.
From the spacious panoramic terrace, it is possible to admire and contemplate the vast garden created at the behest of Evelyn van Millingen, the last Countess Pisani. Born in Constantinople and raised in Turkey, Countess Evelina was the daughter of a father of Flemish origin and a mother of French origin.
A spectacular setting for dream weddings, conferences, parties and cultural events, the 19th-century garden reflects the cultural richness and eclecticism of the countess, as shown by the harmonious blend of the Dutch Calvinist garden, the Islamic religious garden, the Italian formal garden and the English romantic garden.

The church of San Giovanni Battista
Located at Via Roma, 44, the parish church of San Giovanni Battista stands out for its white gabled facade vertically divided into three sections by four Corinthian pilasters.
The entrance portal is surmounted by an elegant broken curved pediment decorated with three charming putti. On the sides open two rectangular windows, softened by curved pediments, cherubs, and shell-shaped ornamental motifs.
Completing the vertical development of the facade is the crenellated triangular pediment crowned at the top by a cross.
Lit by large round-arched single-light windows, the church’s single nave is enhanced by precious altars in polychrome marble, a refined pulpit and vivid paintings that adorn the ceiling. One of the most precious works housed in the parish of San Giovanni Battista is the 18th-century painting depicting Saint Mark the Evangelist, the work of Antonio Pellegrini.
If you are wondering what to do in Vescovana, the church of San Giovanni Battista is a true jewel of art, history and architecture waiting to be discovered!
