Villa Giustiniani
Located at Via Ronchi, 8, in the hamlet of Vanzo, Villa Giustiniani is one of the most fascinating and significant cultural landmarks of the municipality.
Harmoniously set in a large tree-lined garden, the noble architectural complex is characterized by a T-shaped plan. Built in the 15th century, the transverse part consists of a main body, arranged on three levels, flanked by airy barchesse marked by wide round arches.
The construction of the Palladian-inspired noble residence dates back to the 18th century, accessible from the west through a romantic avenue of linden trees. Vertically tripartite, the villa’s façade is rhythmically defined at the center by two pairs of imposing Doric semi-columns, above which rest the architrave, the frieze, and the dentilated triangular pediment, in the center of which stands the crest of the Giustinian family, recognizable by the majestic double-headed eagle.
Crowning the vertical development of the structure are five majestic pyramidal spires, two of which (those at the ends) serve as chimneys.
Bike ride in the Sampierana countryside
The starting point of the cycling route is the parish of San Matteo Apostolo at Via San Matteo, 7. Proceed northwest along Via San Matteo and leave the linden tree avenue of Villa Giustiniani to your right. After about 120 meters turn right onto Via Ronchi.
Travel along Via Ronchi for 2.1 km, entering the pleasant rural scenery of Sampierano lined with lush rows of vines and endless cornfields bounded by lush hedges of poplars, acacias, elms, willows, and tree of heavens, then turn left and follow Via Carlo Dottori to the intersection with Via Levà.
At the intersection turn left, proceed for 260 meters and turn right onto Via Levà. At the roundabout, take the second exit and proceed along Via Reoso for 1.3 km between wheat fields and well-kept gardens dotted with magnolias, maritime pines, cypresses, Lombardy poplars, cedars, and cherry trees.
At the next roundabout take the third exit and follow Via Cristo Prima Str. for 1.4 km until you find Piazza San Pietro on your left, in the urban heart of San Pietro Viminario. At this point cross the pedestrian crosswalk and proceed along Via G. Marconi and Via S. Matteo for about 2 km until you return to the starting point.
