Where is Roveredo di Guà?
The municipality of Roveredo di Guà borders to the northeast with Pojana Maggiore, to the northwest with Cologna Veneta, to the south with Montagnana, to the east with Pojana Maggiore and Montagnana, to the west with Pressana.
Walk along the Lungoargine from Via Dante Alighieri
The starting point of the short itinerary is the church of San Pietro Apostolo.
Leave the facade of the church of San Pietro Apostolo on your left, walk along Via Basso to the intersection with Via Dante Alighieri and turn right. After 280 meters, at the stop sign, turn left and continue along Via Dante Alighieri for 230 meters until you find, just before the bridge, the beginning of the dirt road that runs parallel to the Guà River. The path offers suggestive views of the Roveredo countryside covered in lush fields of corn and wheat and punctuated by rich hedges of willows, acacias, alders, elms, walnuts, plane trees, and poplars.
After about 650 meters, in correspondence with a ruined stone rural annex, turn left into Via Chiavica. At the intersection turn left again and follow Via Chiavica, Via Possessione, and Via II Giugno to the roundabout. At the roundabout take the third exit and follow Via Dante Alighieri for 130 meters, then turn right into Via Basso until you return to the church of San Pietro Apostolo.
The parish church of San Pietro Apostolo
Located at Via Cesare Battisti 43, the church of San Pietro Apostolo faces a lush garden dotted with lindens, cypresses, maritime pines, hackberries, and magnolias that frame a monument in honor of the patriots who fell in World War I. On top of the white commemorative stele rises the bronze statue of a soldier clutching a dagger in his right hand while raising a laurel wreath with his left hand.
Set in the historic heart of the town a short distance from the grassy banks of the Guà, the church is distinguished by a majestic double-pitched facade, vertically tripartite by four Ionic pilasters resting on high plinths.
Crowned by a triangular tympanum supported by two corbels, the wooden portal is flanked by two niches containing, on the left, the statue of San Pietro, recognizable by the symbol of the Keys of Heaven and the Book, on the right, the statue of San Paolo, recognizable by the double-edged sword at his side.
Above the entrance door and the two niches extends a horizontal molded frame, surmounted by the inscription D.O.M. ET B. PETRO AP DICATUM. Completing the vertical development of the structure are the architrave, the frieze, and the triangular dentiled pediment crowned by three acroterial statues.
If you are wondering what to do in Roveredo di Guà, the vast and bright nave of the neoclassical place of worship houses precious altars in polychrome marble, a spectacular pipe organ, and enchanting painted works.
