Bike ride in Marcon
The recommended bike ride starts from the parking lot between Viale S. Marco and Via Boschette (45.561384369115615, 12.299342060034512). Head east on Via Boschette for 260 meters, then turn left and follow the short zigzag path that leads into a lush tree-lined park that leads to the ancient small temple of San Giuseppe.
The small temple of San Giuseppe
Framed by the soaring evergreen crowns of two ornamental cypresses, the refined architecture of the small temple is distinguished by a white façade punctuated by Ionic pilasters.
Flanked by pilasters, the massive wooden door is surmounted by a lunette window above which stand the architrave and the triangular dentilled pediment. Another striking feature is the graceful bell gable corresponding to the apse.
The Zero Park
Set in a green handkerchief of wooded land and surrounded by a cobbled path, the small temple of San Giuseppe is one of the most peculiar and pleasant places in the municipality of Marcon.
Continue along Via S. Giuseppe to the intersection with Via Molino. Once you reach Via Molino, cross the road and take Villaggio Molin, then keep left and continue for 350 meters towards the Zero River. At this point, turn left onto the dirt path flanked by a hedge that follows the embankment and passes by the Green Area (via Don Ballan).
Continue until you join Via Don Mariano Ballan, cross the pedestrian crossing and continue south for 80 meters, then turn right into the parking area from which you access the Zero Park.
Go through the gate and take the route that winds among the verdant fronds of weeping willows and the canopies of acacias, poplars, and oaks. The peaceful public garden includes several benches, a playground, and offers a lovely view of the vast rural panorama of the Venetian hinterland crossed by the Zero.
The Archpriest Church of San Giorgio Martire
At the exit of the route, at a parking lot, turn right towards Via Monte Antelao, then turn left and continue to the intersection with Via Monte Berico. At this point, turn left and proceed for 180 meters until you find on your left the Archpriest Church of San Giorgio Martire, a splendid example of ecclesiastical architecture heralded by the towering bulk of the bell tower marked by pilasters and culminating in a square-based spire surmounted by an iron cross.
The solemn place of worship is distinguished by the beautiful gabled façade tripartite by four pilasters that support the pediment and identify in the center of the façade a pictorial representation of the saint.
Inside, the church houses precious secular works of art: from altars in polychrome marbles and refined wooden sculptures to masterful paintings of the Venetian school.
Every year, between June and July, the parish area hosts the celebrations in honor of San Giorgio, which include stands with local culinary and wine specialties, fun activities for children, as well as music, dance evenings, and exciting fireworks displays.
After the visit, the last stop of the route will perhaps be the most enchanting. From Piazza IV November, enter the roundabout, take the second exit, and continue along Viale San Marco for 1.5 km, then turn left onto Via della Cultura.
Walk along Via della Cultura passing by Piazza Mercato, where every year the “Marcon Summer Vibes” event takes place, enlivening the squares and streets of the municipality with live music and street food, i.e., gastronomic specialties you can enjoy while strolling and listening to your favorite bands and musical genres.
At the intersection with Via dello Sport, turn right and continue for 220 meters, then cross the pedestrian crossing in front of Caaf Cgil and continue southward. Continue keeping left and take the stretch of cycle-pedestrian path that connects Via dello Sport to Via Alta.
Continue along Via Alta and Vicolo L. Perosi, then turn right into the underpass. After exiting the underpass, continue along Via Enrico Mattei for 1.1 km. At the roundabout, take the second exit and proceed along Via Giacomo Matteotti until you reach Via Matteotti 26, the starting point and meeting place for fascinating excursions of the Lipu Oasis of the Cave di Gaggio.
