The 2023 edition of the asparagus festival took place from Thursday 11 to Wednesday 17 and from Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 May on Via Vittorio Veneto.
As every year, the lively event features spacious dining areas where you can choose from exquisite dishes based on the renowned vegetable that finds ideal conditions to grow lush in the fertile territory of Cavaion. The menu of the last event included gourmet dishes such as the traditional creamy risotto with white asparagus and crispy bacon, asparagus with shallot, and the classic combination of egg and white asparagus.

Bike Ride in Cavaion Veronese
The starting point of the short itinerary is the parish church of San Giovanni Battista in Piazza della Chiesa. Leave the south facade of the place of worship to your right and proceed east towards the Locanda Centrale restaurant. Turn left onto Via Belvedere and continue east along Via San Michele, then keep left on Località Ceriel at the foot of a wooded hill on whose summit the grandiose remains of an ancient religious complex stand.
Along the way you will find tables shaded by gnarled olive trees and benches from which you can admire the splendid valley lapped by Lake Garda. Continue east to the intersection (45.5406782659993, 10.761322519203118), then keep left and continue south on Località Ceriel for 180 meters. At the intersection keep right and proceed on Str. Val Quarole for 600 meters, descending the gentle hill dotted with towering cypresses and silver olive trees.
Keep right and follow Str. Sotto Valzuane for 350 meters in the shade of lush tree vegetation. Turn left onto Vicolo Villa and proceed for 900 meters to the intersection with the provincial road. Cross the road and continue along Str. Villa and Str. Tre Contre’ for 700 meters, crossing the peaceful countryside landscape of Cavaion covered with vineyards.
At the intersection turn left and proceed for 1.1 km along Strada Preela Zanoni. At the roundabout take the third exit and follow Via Berengario for 450 meters, turn left, then keep right on Via Battisti and continue along Via Roma until you return to Piazza della Chiesa.
The Bastia di San Michele
Located on Via Calcarara, the archaeological site stands on two grassy terraces on the top of a wooded hill, from whose strategic position you can overlook the extraordinary panorama of the Valdadige. Founded by the Lombards on a prehistoric settlement, the ancient walled complex features on the lower level a place of worship dedicated to San Michele, dating back to the 9th century. The upper level was occupied by a series of 14th-century buildings probably designed to house a religious community.
