The parish church of Sant’Anna dei Boschi
Located in Piazza S. Anna, 17, the church stands out for its white façade horizontally divided into two sections. The lower register is rhythmically marked by Corinthian pilasters, above which stand the architrave, frieze, and dentilled cornice.
The massive wooden portal, decorated with rectangular panels, is surmounted by a projecting triangular pediment supported by corbels. Above the entrance stands the golden inscription on a red field: TO THE GREAT AND ETERNAL GOD IN HONOR OF ANNE AND JOACHIM THE PIETY OF THE FAITHFUL.
At the center of the upper register stands a large circular arch, slightly recessed into the wall, flanked by two niches containing the statues of Joachim, father of Mary, recognizable by the lamb at his feet, and of St. Anne, wife of Joachim and mother of Mary.
A few meters from the place of worship, set between the central bar and an elegant building adjacent to the church, stands the towering exposed brick mass of the bell tower, bearing a Roman numeral clock beneath the belfry.
Crowning the vertical development of the structure is an elegant spire resting on an octagonal drum.
Villa in Boschi Sant’Anna and Villa Donà delle Rose
Facing Piazza Sant’Anna between the parish church and the town hall of Sant’Anna dei Boschi, the charming square-plan manor house is arranged on three levels: ground floor, main floor, and mezzanine.
On the main floor there is a three-light window adorned with a white parapet, above which rises a raised body with three arched openings, aligned with those below. The elevation is flanked by volutes and topped by a triangular pediment.
If you are wondering what to do in Boschi Sant’Anna, this enchanting centuries-old villa is one of the most delightful buildings in the municipality, not to mention Villa Donà delle Rose (also known as Palazzo Rosso), a spectacular 17th-century architectural complex harmoniously set in the rural landscape of the Lower Veronese area.
