(Updated article) Discover what to see in Vazzola in the province of Treviso: three unforgettable places of historical, artistic, and architectural interest.
Where is Vazzola?
Vazzola borders to the north with Mareno di Piave and Codognè, to the south with Cimadolmo and San Polo di Piave, to the east with Fontanelle and to the west with Mareno di Piave.
Visit Borgo Malanotte
Nestled in the splendid rural setting of the Treviso countryside, Borgo Malanotte is a wonderful fifteenth-century urban center located in Tezze, a hamlet of Vazzola, whose name derives from the noble family of merchants from the Val di Sole in Trentino-Alto Adige.
Arriving in the area in the second half of the 17th century, a branch of the illustrious family initiated a series of expansion works on the ancient inhabited center, once surrounded by walls and a tower with defensive and lookout functions, probably built along the route towards the Guado di Lovadina.
The ancient village constituted an autonomous and self-sufficient community thanks to the various agricultural and artisanal production activities (including a silk mill and a cellar), carried out by the inhabitants of the small fortified village.
The inhabited center represents a point of reference in the cultural landscape of the municipality of Vazzola and hosts every year traditional folk celebrations, antique and swap markets, trade fairs that enhance the typical products and gastronomy of the area, as well as artisan workshops and historical reenactments that arouse the interest of countless visitors from every corner of the Veneto.
If you are wondering what to see in Vazzola, Borgo Malanotte in the hamlet of Tezze is one of the most enchanting places.
Palazzo Tiepolo
A majestic 17th century noble mansion, the elegant Palazzo Tiepolo is currently the municipal seat of Vazzola, located at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, 103 and represents a jewel of art and architecture in the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality.
The sumptuous vacation residence, whose first evidence dates back to the mid-17th century, is recognizable by the elegant rectangular windows on the ground floor and arched windows on the first floor, as well as the three-mullioned window with balustrade placed above the massive entrance portal.
The artistic value of the structure is attested by the lavish stucco ornaments and the evocative 18th-century frescoes depicting legendary scenes.
Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista
Located at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, 13, the parish church of Vazzola is one of the most valuable monuments in the religious and artistic landscape of the municipality.
The splendid church, whose origins date back to the 15th century, is recognizable by its majestic architecture that combines oriental decorative elements typical of the Byzantine style with the sober but elegant features of Lombard architecture.
The interior of the sacred building includes three finely decorated altars in excellent condition, as well as a series of colorful 16th and 17th century frescoes depicting the Baptism of Jesus and St. John in the desert.
The towering bell tower that can be admired today is the result of a reconstruction that took place following the bombings of the Great War.
