Castello Lucheschi in the municipality of Colle Umberto
Located at via Contesse, 1, 31014 Colle Umberto (TV), Villa Castello Lucheschi is one of the most representative buildings of the municipality and a monument of inestimable historical value of the cultural heritage of the Region.
The elegant 18th-century castle stands where once stood the rural service buildings (stables, granaries and warehouses) belonging to an ancient Benedictine monastery, located on the top of a green natural hill, evidence of which has survived a majestic bell tower that between the 19th and 20th centuries was converted into a tower with a defensive function.
The noble residence pleasantly surprises visitors with the majesty of its architecture and the refinement of the ornamental apparatus that decorates its interior rooms, among which ancient stuccoes of fine workmanship stand out, finished with delicate gilding that surround invaluable pictorial works by the Venetian artist Giambattista Piazzetta (1683 – 1754).
Church of San Martino in the municipality of Colle Umberto
Located at piazza don C. Vendrame 3, in the locality of San Martino, the splendid parish church of Colle Umberto is immediately recognizable for its sumptuous porticoed entrance with five sturdy round arches in which you can admire wonderful frescoes by Francesco Pagani, depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. The ancient pictorial representations involve the spectator across centuries with their intense drama, such as the scenes of the Flagellation and Christ before Pilate, on the left wall.
The current structure is the result of several reconstruction and renovation works carried out on the foundations of the oldest sanctuary dating back to the 15th century.
A particular feature of notable historical and artistic interest is the coat of arms of the illustrious De Gazzuolis family impressed on the stone basin of the baptistery, bearing the image of a magpie on a branch emerging from a mountain with three peaks.
The high altar of the church, attributed to Battista de Zorzi Veronese, is adorned with a spectacular covering of precious polychrome marbles, while the white side altars were made of white Carrara marble and decorated with scenes depicting the Holy Family and the beheading of Saint John the Baptist.
