The church of Santa Maria Assunta
Located in Piazza Armando Diaz, 1, the church of Santa Maria Assunta stands out for its simple double-pitched facade, marked by two pairs of pilasters resting on high bases. Completing the vertical development of the structure is the elegant dentilled triangular pediment crowned by three statues. At the center of the tympanum, a painted oculus bears the inscription: D.O.M. ET IN HONOREM B. MARIAE VIRG. ASSUMPTAE.
At the center of the front opens a bronze portal decorated with a high relief. Finished with a round arch, the doorway is flanked by pilasters and topped by a triangular pediment, above which stands a splendid thermal window. Beside the portal are two smaller rectangular entrances, also in bronze, topped by niches housing fine statues.
The facade is flanked by two volumes, set slightly back, lit by lunettes. The church’s single nave is embellished with fine altars in polychrome marble and a refined pipe organ.
If you’re wondering what to do in Solesino, the church of Santa Maria Assunta is a true gem of architecture and sacred art set in the Padua countryside, a short distance from Rovigo.
Barchessa Pisani – Trevisan
Located in Via Giuseppe Mazzini, in the locality of Pisana, Barchessa Pisani – Trevisan is one of the most significant examples of rural architecture in Solesino.
The architectural complex consists of a majestic porticoed building with a rectangular plan. On the west side rises the imposing structure of a former late-19th-century mill, while facing the street you can admire an enchanting restored oratory with pilasters of the Corinthian order.
Facing a large courtyard framed by a radiant tree-lined garden, the 17th-century rural building is marked by broad round arches, divided by sturdy pillars softened by pilasters. Above the keystone of each arch is a small oval opening. Beneath the portico you can see a wooden chute used to help grain slide down.
