Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin
Located at Via Roma, 25, the imposing exposed brick mass of the eighteenth-century place of worship stands out for a majestic façade vertically tripartite by four pilasters resting on bases. Topped with white Corinthian capitals, the pilasters flank the massive wooden portal, surmounted by a projecting curved tympanum, and the two side niches housing two statues, of which the one on the right depicts Saint Agnes.
Completing the vertical development of the front is the entablature formed by architrave, frieze and dentilated triangular pediment. The latter is adorned on the top with three statues. Above the entrance door stands the inscription “D.O.M. MARIAE NASCENTI ET DIVO ATHANASIO”.
Illuminated by enchanting lunettes with colored glass, the single-nave church is embellished with precious marble altars and a sculpture of the Madonna enthroned with the Child. Placed in the left apse chapel, the polychrome terracotta sculpture is a priceless Renaissance work from the fifteenth century.
If you are wondering what to do in Pozzonovo, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin is one of the most spectacular artistic and architectural monuments of the municipality.
Idrovora Ca’ Giovannelli
Located at Via Ca’ Giovannelli (coordinates: 45.14983185385826, 11.84041593843523) the Idrovora Ca’ Giovannelli is a suggestive example of industrial archaeology immersed in the countryside of Pozzonovo.
Dating back to the 1920s, the pumping station was built to reclaim the area of the Consorzio Gorzon Inferiore e Bacino del Navegale.
Through two large canals, the pumping station drains the waters of the area below the Euganean Hills, in the territories corresponding to the municipalities of Pozzonovo, Solesino, Granze and Stanghella.
Villa Centanini
Located at Via Tezzon in the hamlet of Capolcastro, the splendid sixteenth-century stately residence consists of a residential core flanked by two large, airy three-story porticoed buildings marked by three wide arches. Enveloped by a pleasant tree-lined park, the main body is marked in the center by two Ionic columns above which stand three quadrangular windows. Topping off the structure is a triangular pediment, elegant and unadorned.
Noteworthy is the charming Liberty-style terrace from which rises a small tower, balustraded, punctuated by three round arches on each side.
