Bicycle ride in Noale
The recommended route starts from the parking lot on Via Aldo Moro in front of a tree-lined park a short distance from the historic center.
Towards Torre del Corvo
Proceed along Via Aldo Moro northwards, leaving the public green area to your right.
At the intersection with Via Montello, turn right and continue for 220 meters until you reach, on your left, the Liuteria Artigianale Riccardo Poggi – LARP: lute-making workshop with an adjoining musical instrument shop which we had the pleasure of discussing in the in-depth article (reported below) during which Riccardo told us about the origin of his love for music and how his passion for this delicate and ancient craft led him to create, together with Manrico and Davide Bonolo, a dynamic and modern business venture aimed at recovering instruments otherwise destined for abandonment to give them new life and optimize their performance. As Riccardo says, in fact, “every instrument must be saved.” Do you want to know more?
At the roundabout, take the third exit and continue for 250 meters until you find on your left a wooden bridge that leads to a white gravel path flanked by a deep moat that surrounds the majestic red brick mass of the mighty Rocca dei Tempesta, a grandiose fortification whose towering crenellated towers, about a thousand years after their creation, stand solemnly in the strategic border location once the scene of bitter disputes between Trevigiani and Padovani.
After crossing the wooden bridge, turn left and continue along the ramparts of the fortress for about two hundred meters, passing alongside (on your left) the vast green area of the Vecellio gardens. Continue towards the Torre del Corvo, a spectacular brick construction crowned with swallowtail battlements that stand out above the bell chamber where refined Gothic mullioned windows open.
Discovering the Rocca dei Tempesta
Noale’s city center
Continue along the arcaded street that borders Piazza Castello, cross the pointed arch portal of the clock tower, then pass by the Palazzo della Loggia, a 16th-century Gothic-style building distinguished by cross vaults on the ground floor and refined single, double, and triple mullioned windows on the first and second floors. Continue straight until you reach Piazza XX Settembre where you will find pastry shops, restaurants, taverns, and historic cafés.
Natural oasis of the quarries of Noale
After passing the square, proceed along Largo San Giorgio for 280 meters and take the side street to the left of Strada degli Ongari.
Continue along Strada degli Ongari for 350 meters and, after crossing the railway line, you will find on your right the entrance to the natural oasis of the Noale quarries.
The deposit originally exploited for the extraction of clay and later left abandoned is now distinguished by a flourishing marsh ecosystem thanks to the water received from the nearby streams, rain, and the emergence of underground springs.
The protected area is the ideal habitat for many species of brightly colored butterflies, amphibians, and birds such as the chaffinch, woodpecker, hawk, and long-tailed tit, a small bird with a white belly (which gives its name to the homonymous natural area in Maserada sul Piave in the province of Treviso), to name a few.
If you are wondering what to do in Noale and are looking for a place immersed in greenery where a vibrant complex of faunal and plant biodiversity thrives, isolated from chaos, smog, and traffic noise, the WWF Oasis of the Noale quarries will surely be right for you.
Return
After the visit, return to Strada degli Ongari and continue to the intersection with Via dei Novale. At the intersection, turn right and continue for 500 meters to Piazzetta del Grano, then turn left onto Via Ubaldo Bregolini and continue to the roundabout. Take the second exit, continue for 210 meters and turn onto Via Aldo Moro until you reach the starting point.
