Events and celebrations
Well known is the Marroni di Combai festival (which we will discuss in more detail shortly) that takes place for almost the entire month of October. Since the Marrone di Combai is an agricultural product with protected geographical indication, Combai itself has hosted since the immediate post-war period a series of celebrations aimed at promoting the product.
This event naturally includes tastings of Marroni and other local products (such as Combaiota, the chestnut beer, or Pastin), a local handicraft market spread throughout the charming village, as well as sports and hiking events, not to mention entertainment and shows.
Marroni Festival in Combai
Where and when does the Marroni di Combai festival take place?
The next edition of the Marroni festival will be held in the area of the pro loco of Combai, an ancient village in the municipality of Miane surrounded by the green slopes of the Prosecco and Verdisio hills.
The festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year from all over the region to taste the exquisite IGP marrone (protected geographical indication), a prized local specialty that can be enjoyed in the enchanting natural setting of the chestnut groves a short distance from the historic center.
The gastronomic event promotes the heritage of traditions, crafts, and food specialties resulting from ancient knowledge aimed at defending the balance between the delicate ecosystem of the territory and the human presence that inhabits it and exploits its potential while preserving its resources.
An opportunity for meeting, exchange, and socializing as well as a chance to explore the locations of a fairytale land, the marroni festival is an ideal event to celebrate and enjoy the colors and flavors offered by the autumn season.
An interesting itinerary starts in Campea, heading towards the Colli and then passing through the Grave, where after a semi-urbanized path you can reach the trail that, winding through groves and vineyards, leads to the locality Pecol Molin, then continuing you reach a bridge (over the Campea, one of the streams that cross the municipality), and emerging onto the Provincial Road brings you back to Campea, where the loop began.
Centuries-old Sant’Antoni Festival
Where and when does the centuries-old Sant’Antoni festival take place?
The festival in honor of Saint Anthony the Abbot takes place in January at the Multifunctional Center of the municipality of Miane at Via Cal di Mezzo, 35.
The event welcomes thousands of visitors every year united by a passion for good food and the desire to spend moments of joviality and carefreeness with music, dance evenings, and gastronomic specialties that distinguish the traditions and cultural identity of the territory.
The celebration inevitably includes glasses of top-quality red wine and the exquisite “sopa co le tripe”, a tasty local specialty to accompany with the prized radicchio rosso di Treviso, with its unmistakable bitter and delicate aroma.
The festival is aimed at everyone, including children, with games, giant soap bubbles that attract and entertain people of all ages, as well as group games to stimulate children’s creativity and ingenuity.
If you are wondering what to do in Miane, the Sant’Antoni festival is one of the most fun and meaningful events to brighten up the cold January days in the province of Treviso.
Visit the historic center of Miane
Inhabited center founded in Roman times and crossed by the Via Claudia Augusta a short distance from the town center, Miane suffered, like most of the settlements in this area, the barbarian invasions during the late empire.
The municipality maintained over the years its status as a center compared to the modest hill settlements formed around it (Combai, Campea, Premaor). First as a Pieve, then as the municipal seat, remaining almost unchanged in its territorial administration to the present day.
Among the most picturesque locations in Miane, we recommend exploring the ancient villages of Pedepiai and Cimavilla, charming hamlets crossed by winding alleys and cobblestone stairways that seem to blend with the low walls and walls of the little stone houses.
