The festival of San Lorenzo
The liturgical calendar commemorates San Lorenzo on August 10 and the feast in his honor, in the municipality of Minerbe, also takes place in the days leading up to this date.
The 2023 edition of the ancient celebration took place from Saturday 5 to Thursday 10 August at PalaMinerbe.
During the traditional event, you can choose from appetizing dishes that highlight the quality of local products and cuisine, first and foremost the exquisite risotto alla minerbese. As in any proper village festival, the menu includes succulent grilled meat dishes served with slices of grilled polenta, coppa steaks, grilled sausages and bacon with polenta, as well as delicious fried fish, just to mention some of the dishes you can order during the festival.
If you’re wondering what to do in Minerbe, the festival of San Lorenzo is an opportunity to spend the summer season in the serene setting of a rural town in Bassa Veronese, with dance evenings, finger-licking culinary specialties, rivers of beer and much more!
To always be updated on the next appointment of the traditional event, we recommend visiting the Facebook page Pro Loco Minerbe APS and prolocobassoveronese.it, where you will find information about other engaging cultural, folkloristic and sporting events, from the festival of San Giuseppe to the march of the three mills.
The parish church of San Lorenzo
Set in the urban heart of Minerbe, the church of San Lorenzo stands out for its monumental façade horizontally divided into two registers, both marked by groups of Corinthian pilasters resting on high bases. In the lower register, three rectangular portals open. The largest portal, in the center, is framed by white columns and Corinthian pilasters, above which stands a lunette depicting the Patron Saint.
Above the side entrances, two circular openings stand out, placed in the center of a slightly protruding square frame. The upper register is rhythmically marked by eleven round arches with balustrades, five in the central section, three on each side. Crowning the vertical development of the structure is a large pediment, flanked by volutes, in which a large semicircular arch bearing the dedication stands out. The structure is completed by an unadorned triangular tympanum.
If you’re wondering what to do in Minerbe, the church of San Lorenzo and the spectacular heritage of paintings and sculptures housed inside represent one of the most extraordinary architectural, artistic and spiritual landmarks of Bassa Veronese.
