The ancient feast of San Pietro is held, except in exceptional cases, every year between June and July to commemorate the martyrdom of the apostle crucified upside down on June 29, 64-67 AD.
The food stalls are held at Via S. Pietro, 35, 30014 San Pietro (VE) next to the majestic bulk of the church of San Pietro and its towering bell tower.
The dishes include tasty specialties of meat and fish, from flavorful grilled fish to succulent ribs and sausages grilled and pan-fried. To quench your thirst during the warm evenings of the beautiful season, fine regional wines and unlimited beer await you.
Bike ride along the Adige River in Cavarzere
The recommended cycling route starts in Piazza della Repubblica. Take Via Rosselli and after about 70 meters turn left into Via Matteotti. Continue along Via Matteotti in the shade of the maritime pines. At the intersection go straight into Via A. Volta and when you reach the intersection with Via Marconi turn right.
Continue along Via Marconi for 600 meters. After crossing the underpass, take the paved road on the right that follows the course of the Adige at the river landing “Athesis”.
Continue along Via Bellina, from where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the river and the lush arboreal and riparian vegetation that grows luxuriantly along its banks.
Once you reach the intersection with Via Circonvallazione, turn left and cross the bridge (walk your bike). After crossing the bridge, keep left, follow the slight descent and continue along Marice, the road that winds along the Gorzone River and leads to the Marice marsh, the most enchanting and unspoiled natural area in the municipality of Cavarzere.
The Marice Marsh of Cavarzere
The itinerary guides visitors through the delicate marsh ecosystem of the swampy area distinguished by a complex heritage of biodiversity that constitutes the habitat of various amphibian and bird species with bright plumage, such as the purple heron, the marsh harrier, the moorhen, and the long-tailed tit, a graceful and tiny passerine with a white chest and head and dark brown wings and back (from which the homonymous oasis in Maserada sul Piave takes its name), to name just a few specimens.
Unspoiled by human intervention, the lush oasis has the shape of a drop enclosed by the winding course of the Adige and the Gorzone.
The careful observer who wishes to visit this pleasant location between May and September will be able to admire the bright colors of the water lilies that bloom and flower in the spring and summer seasons.
For those wondering what to do in Cavarzere and looking for a protected and quiet area, far from traffic, animated by a formidable biodiversity that includes the fox, elusive and graceful among the white willows, the robin, and the lovely river turtle hidden among the sedges, the Marice marsh is certainly a recommended location!
Palazzo Barbiani
Located at Via Umberto I 2, Cavarzere (VE), Palazzo Barbiani, the town hall, is the most representative building of the municipality.
Designed in the second half of the 19th century, the monumental architectural complex was faithfully rebuilt after the bombings of the Second World War had compromised its structure and features elements of Gothic taste identifiable both in the refined mullioned windows and in the large portico with cross vaults.
Another striking element is the soaring clock tower incorporated in the center of the building, culminating in the bell cell with an octagonal base and framed by a balustrade that follows the perimeter of the square-based structure.
