Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
Located at Piazza Roma, 7, the parish church stands out for its pristine neoclassical double-pitched façade, vertically divided into three sections by two pairs of Ionic pilasters resting on high plinths. At the center of the façade, a massive wooden portal opens, surmounted by a triangular tympanum. Above the portal, a circular opening adorned with polychrome stained glass stands out.
Completing the vertical development of the structure are the molded architrave, the frieze, and the triangular pediment crowned by three statues.
Characterized by a Latin cross plan, the church features a large dome at the intersection of the nave and transept. Atop the dome rises a charming lantern.
If you are wondering what to do in Buttapietra, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is one of the most fascinating spiritual, cultural, and architectural landmarks in the municipality. Inside the place of worship, splendid paintings and precious altars in polychrome marble are preserved.
