Where is the Olmè Wood?
The entrance to the Olmè Wood is at Via Dante, 7, 31040 Calstorta di Cessalto (TV).
With an area of twenty-four hectares, the Olmè Wood represents one of the most significant natural oases in the Veneto region.
An ideal destination for anyone seeking a serene, regenerating, and peaceful atmosphere immersed in greenery, the vast floodplain area is a treasure trove of biodiversity in which the most diverse tree, flower, and wildlife species coexist in harmony in a delicate ecosystem where time seems suspended in a primordial dimension unspoiled by human intervention.
The flora of the Olmè Wood
Among the numerous species of shrubs and bushy plants we mention wild hop, butcher’s-broom with its unmistakable red berries, as well as varieties such as hazel, viburnum, and elder.
The shrubby flora is characterized by majestic specimens of oaks, elms, ashes, and white poplars.
In the spring season, the attentive observer can spot splendid varieties of orchids, blue-flowered irises, and Symphytum officinale, recognizable by its white five-toothed tubular corolla.
Primroses, bluebells, and anemones thrive at the edges of wooded areas populated by manna ashes, hawthorns, field maples, and black locusts.
The fauna of the Olmè Wood
Considerable interest is aroused by the presence of splendid butterflies that find their habitat in specific microclimates in correspondence with herbaceous plants.
Particularly evocative, the amphibian species include specimens of green lizard, agile frog, tree frog, and grass snake.
To make the woodland site a recommended location for ornithology enthusiasts are the charming bird species such as the river nightingale, blackbird, great tit, sparrowhawk, and many other birds recognizable by the colors of their plumage, from the gray tones of the blackcap to the bright shades of the robin.
