Located in Refrontolo (TV) at Via Molinetto, 40, the mill complex is nestled in the croda, the rocky cliff of the mountain wrapped in vineyards and covered with beech, elm, hornbeam, poplar, acacia, field maple, tree of heaven and many other tall trees.
Founded in the 17th century, the mill stands by the Lierza river, a seasonal stream whose clear waters are channelled into a chute to drive the wooden waterwheel. The historic core of the building was enlarged over the centuries to create spaces for the millers’ families.

Starting in 1953, the Molinetto della Croda went through a period of neglect that lasted until 1991, when the municipality of Refrontolo purchased the mill complex to subject it to careful restoration work.
A symbol of the precious heritage of knowledge and traditions of rural life in Veneto, the mill has returned to operation thanks to the rebuilding of the millstone, now used to grind “biava” just as was done in the 1600s. The mill complex stands out as one of the few watermills still operating to produce corn flour for polenta, a process that can be observed during guided tours.
If you are wondering what to do in Refrontolo and want to immerse yourself in a fairy-tale place among evocative waterfalls and enchanted woods, the Molinetto della Croda is the starting point for fascinating nature trails to discover the hills of Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Refrontolo Passito DOC, wine excellences that are UNESCO World Heritage and can be tasted in the splendid historic setting of the mill.
The building’s rooms are used as a museum and host interesting cultural events throughout the year. From 8 December 2023 to 4 February 2024, the Molinetto della Croda hosts the 26th edition of the nativity scene exhibition.
