Where is Loria located?
The municipality of Loria in the province of Treviso borders to the north with Mussolente, San Zenone degli Ezzelini and Riese Pio X, to the south with Galliera Veneta, San Martino di Lupari and Castello di Godego, to the east with Riese Pio X, to the west with Cassola, Rossano Veneto and Galliera Veneta.
Origin of the name of the municipality of Loria
Loria, a town of ancient origins, owes its name to the Via Aurelia, a famous Roman road that connected Padua to Asolo and then reached Feltre, passing right through this town.
In addition to the finds from Roman-era settlements, the cultural heritage of the area preserves evidence of the rule of noble medieval houses, such as that of the Ezzelini, and of the period of domination of the Republic of Venice.
The area is distinguished by the natural beauty of its landscapes, an ideal setting for tourist itineraries to explore in total tranquility, on foot or by bicycle, along splendid tree-lined avenues along the banks of the river Muson.
Muson Natural Park – On the Trails of the Ezzelini
Splendid green area stretching along the course of the eponymous river, the Muson natural park is one of the most evocative locations on the route “On the Trails of the Ezzelini“, a cycle-pedestrian itinerary that connects Padua to Asolo branching into two sections, one of which passes through the municipalities of Castelfranco, Godego, Loria and Spineda, winding along the course of the Muson dei Sassi.
The evocative itinerary is the result of hard work and constant participation by all the municipal administrations crossed by the rural route, united by a common desire to enhance the vast mosaic of arboreal, floral and faunal biodiversity that makes this green corner of the province of Treviso unique of its kind.
Church of San Giovanni Battista
Located in the hamlet of Bessica at via Dante Alighieri, 1, 31037 Loria (TV), the nineteenth-century place of worship is one of the most significant historical, artistic and architectural landmarks of the municipality.
The façade of the neoclassical church is vertically divided by two pairs of six Corinthian half-columns, above which stand out the architrave, the frieze and the dentilled triangular pediment. The latter is adorned with a circular opening in the center of which a dove stands. The vertical development of the structure is concluded by a statue depicting San Giovanni Battista, flanked by statues symbolizing Faith and Charity.
The single nave, white and bright, is surmounted by a splendid ceiling adorned with a fresco depicting the glory of San Giovanni Battista.
Supported by half-columns with Corinthian capitals, the wide arches frame four altars, one of which is dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary. A marble altar is adorned with an ancient statue of the Virgin of Carmel, a wooden altar is dedicated to Saint Valentine, another altar is decorated with an altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. The main marble altar is adorned with statues of two angels in prayer.
