The Archpriest Church
Located at Piazza della Chiesa, 5, 31030 Cison di Valmarino in the province of Treviso (TV), the splendid sanctuary is one of the most valuable sacred, artistic and architectural monuments in the municipality of Cison di Valmarino.
The construction of the church we can admire today was carried out between the 17th and 18th centuries, a spectacular example of sacred architecture in Neoclassical style recognizable by the majestic façade adorned on the west with sculptural representations of Faith, Hope and Charity, while the eastern façade bears the statue of Saint John surrounded by the cardinal virtues, namely Prudence, Temperance, Fortitude and Justice.
The single nave of the parish church, built in Baroque style, wide and bright, houses a treasure of incredible pictorial and sculptural value, such as the priceless frescoes and paintings by the Cison master Egidio Dall’Oglio, among which stands out the grand 18th-century Assumption of the Virgin on the wall behind the majestic altar.
The great artist also decorated the ceiling of the nave, the side walls and the dome of the choir with sacred representations of impressive beauty.
The church organ, recently restored, is the work of Gaetano Callido (1727-1813), one of the best organ builders ever.
