Discover what to do in Saonara: the Feast of the Assumption, the Vivai cycling path, the Sarmazza River Park. Do you want to know more? First of all…
Where is Saonara located?
The municipality of Saonara borders to the east and northeast with Vigonovo, to the west and northwest with Padova, to the east and southeast with Sant’Angelo di Piove di Sacco, to the west and southwest with Legnaro.
The Feast of the Assumption
According to liturgical tradition, the day of the Assumption of Mary is August 15, and the celebration in her honor also takes place on the days before and after this date.
The 2023 edition of the festival is scheduled from Thursday, August 10 to Sunday, August 16 at the church of San Martino in Piazzale San Martino, 1.
Recommended for food lovers, the carefree celebration features spacious dining areas where you can savor tempting seafood and land dishes: from appetizing fish fries and succulent ribs, sausages and steaks sizzling on the grill.
The highlight of the event will be the delicious ‘spiedo del Bò’, exquisite beef slowly cooked on the spit (a protagonist of many village fairs like that of Cervarese Santa Croce), to be enjoyed with glasses of wine and cold mugs of beer, ideal for cooling down and soothing the summer heat.
To further enliven the festive days, there will be dance evenings with ballroom orchestras, electrifying DJ music shows and tribute band performances that will make you relive timeless Italian and international rock music hits.
At the end of the festival, the rich program includes dazzling, breathtaking fireworks displays.
If you are wondering what to do in Saonara and want to spend the beautiful season in the lovely setting of a rural village about 10 km from the historic center of Padova, the Feast of the Assumption might be the right event for you!

The Vivai cycling path
To access the cycling path, you can leave your car at the Francesco Daniele municipal stadium in Viale dello Sport, 6. Alternatively, you can leave your car in the parking lot of the nearby Villatora cemetery, in Via XI Febbraio.
Leave the municipal stadium on your left and proceed south along the cycling path in Viale dello Sport that runs alongside the olive tree park.
Keep left on Via dei Vivai, a pleasant paved itinerary from which you can admire wide views of the Brenta river and the serene rural landscape of Saonara, punctuated by lush hedges of acacia and plane trees, vast wheat fields, flourishing vineyards and well-kept lush nurseries.
If you are wondering what to do in Saonara, the Vivai cycling path is a pleasant naturalistic route that offers fascinating glimpses of the river and rural landscape of this splendid municipality on the border with Padova.
The Sarmazza River Park
Unless there are prohibition signs, to reach the park you can park on Via Frassanedo at the Boschetto Legambiente (45.37869622622433, 11.969843757512137).
The white tree-lined path winds along the course of the Brenta, from whose grassy banks soar elegant poplars, plane trees, willows, elms, lindens, robinias, and tree of heavens, whose canopies offer shelter to visitors from the summer sun.
If you are wondering what to do in Saonara, the Sarmazza river park is a splendid green lung lapped by the icy river originating from the clear springs of Caldonazzo and Levico, in Trentino Alto Adige. One of the most photogenic spots in the municipality, the tree reserve is an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful atmosphere away from concrete and traffic bustle.
