Bike ride in Salzano
The recommended cycling route starts from the former Romanin Jacur spinning mill at Via Roma, 166, 30030 Salzano (VE)
Splendid example of industrial archaeology, the centuries-old structure preceded by the tall brick chimney is today one of the historical and cultural landmarks of the municipality of Salzano.
Arranged in a horseshoe shape, the spacious and bright rooms of the ancient industrial complex are now part of a museum itinerary in which the suggestive perspectives of the building blend with the most modern multimedia technologies to make visitors active participants, and not mere spectators, of an exciting and at the same time educational sensory experience.
The Park of Villa Romanin Jacur
In the area behind the spinning mill, a white tree-lined avenue leads to the sports field that includes two basketball courts and a soccer field, but the most fascinating natural area is the large wooded park that rises next to the historic establishment.
What makes the atmosphere of the park of Villa Romanin Jacur exciting and fairy-tale-like is the careful and calculated creation of a scenario that deludes the visitor into finding themselves in a primordial and idyllic environment, apparently untouched by man. To the precise geometries of the terraces and the rigorous geometric designs of well-kept hedges and tree-lined avenues typical of Italian gardens, the park of Villa Romanin Jacur generates wonder and charm through the sinuous course of streams, hills and shady wooded areas that surround pleasant ponds and mysterious caves.
For nature lovers wondering what to do in Salzano, this place is an unmissable destination!
The Parish Church of San Bartolomeo
After visiting the park you can exit through the entrance gate opposite the villa’s facade. Proceed for 400 meters along Via Roma eastwards until you find on your right the Parish Church of San Bartolomeo.
Located at Via Roma, 57, 30030 Salzano (VE), the church is distinguished by its classical-style facade punctuated by Tuscan order pilasters above which stand the architrave and triangular pediment. On the sides, two semicircular niches open up housing the statues of two saints.
Inside, the majestic bulk of the place of worship is softened by spectacular frescoes, refined marble altars and an ancient pipe organ.
Oasi Lycaena
Leaving the church, continue on Via Roma for 450 meters to the roundabout. Take the third exit and continue on Via Montegrappa for 750 meters, then at the roundabout turn right into Via Villetta. Continue for 280 meters and turn left into Via Borgo Valentini. Continue for 1.1 km along the winding road flanked by shady hedges immersed in the rural scenery of the Venetian hinterland.
Cross the tracks and turn right into Via Leonardo da Vinci. After 750 meters, turn left to access the Oasi Lycaena, a nature reserve established on a deposit from which clay was extracted to produce construction material.
The healthiness of the delicate ecosystem formed in this area is attested by the presence of numerous bird species, such as the white heron and the kingfisher, as well as amphibians and insects like the eponymous orange butterfly from which this delicate natural microcosm takes its name.
Return
After the visit, return to the oasis entrance and turn left into Via Leonardo da Vinci crossing the canal. At the intersection turn right into Via Villetta, follow the main road (keep left) and after crossing the underpass continue on Via Villetta for 1.6 km.
At the roundabout take the first exit, after three hundred meters turn left and continue along Via Frusta for 2.2 km. At the roundabout take the third exit and continue on Via Villatega for 600 meters, then turn into Via Vallone. After crossing the bridge over the canal, turn right and continue along the dirt road immersed in the countryside flanking cornfields and some rural houses.
Cross the small wooden bridge on your left, (make sure there are no signs prohibiting it or problems with the structure) turn left into Via Mazzan and continue on Via Palazzone.
Follow the placid and winding course of the Taglio canal passing by a dense wooded area of thriving poplars, acacias and willows. After reaching the intersection with the paved road, turn left into Via Palazzone, then continue on Via Ponte Grasso and at the intersection turn right into Via Roma. Continue along the cycle path that crosses for a short stretch the industrial and commercial area of the town until you return to the starting point of the former spinning mill and the majestic wooded garden that grows alongside it.
