The Genio road and Pian dei Buoi
The Genio road is a military road built at the dawn of the 20th century to connect Lozzo di Cadore to Pian dei Buoi. The plateau’s privileged position was in fact a suitable place for the construction of several strategic works such as barracks, shelters and fortifications, the most significant of which takes its name from Col Vidal. Accessible by car or bicycle at set times both uphill and downhill, the winding single-lane road is characterized by numerous tunnels and twenty-five hairpin bends, mostly shaded by the dense woodland vegetation covering the hillside.
Once you reach Pian dei Buoi, an ideal destination for hikers and cyclists wondering what to do in Lozzo di Cadore, the effort of the excursion is rewarded by breathtaking views of the Marmarole to the east, the Croda dei Toni to the north, and Monte Cridola to the southeast.
