For lovers of lake tourism, a little further north of the Lorenzago town center, about a quarter of an hour by car, lies Lake Santa Caterina, a chilly artificial basin created in the 1930s following the construction of the dam to hold back the course of the Ansiei.
What to Do in Lorenzago di Cadore: the dream park
From Piazza Calvi to the Dream Park
The starting point of the route is the car park in Piazza Calvi, opposite the Church of Santi Ermacora e Fortunato Martiri. We leave the facade of the place of worship on our left and continue to the junction with Via Cesarol, then turn left. At the junction with the state road 52, turn right and continue for about eighty meters until reaching the town hall, then take Via Pecol on our left.
We follow Via Pecol for 400 meters to the fork, then keep left and follow the signs for the dream park. An ideal place for those who want to immerse themselves in a fairy-tale atmosphere suspended in time, where nature and silence reign supreme, the dream park is a peaceful oasis dotted with larches and firs, whose prickly crowns offer shelter to squirrels and roe deer.
The park’s dense vegetation is lapped by the Piova stream and by a lovely pond, beside which a cave shelters a statuette of the Madonna.
The Pope’s trail
The start of the trail is in Via Pecol, near the Tennis Club “Pesin”. The first part of the well-marked loop route winds through a lush conifer forest and runs alongside Castello Mirabello. From località Pecosta, continue towards località Stabiere, from whose privileged position there is a striking view of Monte Cridola and Monte Miaron, where the namesake World War I fort was built.
The winding woodland path leads to the Regine Pacis trail; once there, continue in the shade of a beech forest until reaching Croera, from which you can see the peaks of Monte Civetta (3,220 m), Monte Pelmo (3,168 m) and Monte Antelao.
The trail crosses Val de Palù and Stabie and leads to Passo Mauria. At the state road 52, follow the dirt road that brings you back to Lorenzago.
