Where is Candiana?
The municipality of Candiana borders to the north with Bovolenta, to the south with Agna, to the east with Pontelongo and Correzzola, to the west with Terrassa Padovana and Arre.
Villa Garzoni
Located in the hamlet of Pontecasale a few km from the center of Candiana, Villa Garzoni is one of the most significant historical and cultural landmarks of the municipality.
Built in the first half of the 16th century at the behest of Alvise Garzoni, the monumental Renaissance architectural complex was designed by Jacopo Sansovino, proto of the Republic of Venice.
Harmoniously set within a vast fifteen-hectare estate, the grandiose architectural complex includes two enormous porticoed barchesse punctuated by wide round arches.
Rising in a marshy and swampy area, the enchanting garden of the noble estate that can be admired today is the result of careful reclamation works carried out by the Garzoni family during the 16th century.
A particularly interesting feature is the system of Istrian stone gutters that channel rainwater into the well located in the center of the courtyard.
Framed by a radiant garden dotted with Atlas cedars, lindens, poplars, and maritime pines, Villa Garzoni is enclosed by a perimeter wall in which an elegant wrought-iron gate opens.
Accessible via a tree-lined avenue adorned with statues leading to an imposing staircase, the majestic manor house is distinguished by a white facade featuring a double loggia with five arches in the center, rhythmically punctuated at the base by half-columns of Doric order, on the first floor of Ionic order.
If you are wondering what to do in Candiana, having the chance to admire, even just from the outside, the sumptuous mass of this magnificent Venetian architectural complex is an exciting experience.
