Hike to Brentino Belluno and Ferrara di Monte Baldo
The starting point of the itinerary is the Parish Church of San Vigilio in Brentino. Leave the church facade to your left and proceed north for 350 meters along via Santuario, crossing the village of Brentino. Then, a short distance from an ancient washhouse, take the stone and pebble staircase that marks the beginning of the Sentiero della Speranza (Path of Hope).
With an elevation gain of 600 meters, the path follows the slope of the rocky height, guiding visitors through the dense tree vegetation covering the mountain.
The effort of the hike is rewarded by fascinating panoramic views of the bright valley, enclosed by the Monte Baldo chain and the southern foothills of the Lessini Mountains, and of the ancient village lapped by the sinuous course of the Adige River, which from this perspective resembles a majestic silver serpent.
The more than 1,500 steps of trail n°73 climb up among white overhanging walls until reaching the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona, located in the neighboring municipality of Ferrara di Monte Baldo, a millennia-old pilgrimage destination overlooked by the steep side of the mountain.
After visiting the place of worship, retrace trail n°73 and then take trail n°75 to your left. The latter, with the aid of a metal support, winds along the dizzying mountain slope and leads to the Vajo dell’Orsa, a scenic valley where clear waterfalls gush forth, observable from the privileged position of a suspension bridge.
After crossing the stream, at the fork follow trail n°74, which leads back to the center of Brentino.
The Vajo dell’Orsa
One of the most fascinating natural sites in the municipality, the Vajo dell’Orsa is a gorge of fluvial origin, carved by winding streams and lively waterfalls that over millions of years have sculpted deep fissures, caves, gorges, and suggestive circular cavities called potholes.
One of the most photogenic spots from which to admire this incredible oasis is the Tibetan bridge, reachable via trail n°74.
If you are wondering what to do in Brentino Belluno, the Vajo dell’Orsa is a must-see destination for hiking enthusiasts looking for a fairy-tale, primordial place immersed in greenery, whose silence is broken by the flow of winding streams and roaring waterfalls.
