La Fenice in Venice, located at Campo San Fantin, 1965, 30124 Venezia VE and officially inaugurated on May 16, 1792, is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, as well as being a jewel of art and architecture whose beautiful ceiling cannot fail to be admired, whose first decorations, designed by the artist Francesco Fontanesi, recall a celestial vault that conveys a sense of lightness and openness to the firmament.
The majestic building, twice devoured by flames (first on December 13, 1836, second on January 29, 1996) and twice risen from its own ashes, like the legendary phoenix from which it takes its name, hosts the traditional New Year’s concert every year.
From December 29, 2019 to January 1, 2020, maestro Myung-Whun Chung will conduct the Orchestra and Chorus in a program consisting of a first part purely orchestral and a second part dedicated to melodrama, with soloists and chorus. The concert will end with the chorus «Va’ pensiero» from Nabucco and the toast «Libiam ne’ lieti calici» from La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi.
