Where is Oderzo?
The Municipality of Oderzo is located in the Province of Treviso, with a territory extending over a surface area of 42.58 square kilometers.
It borders to the north with Fontanelle and Mansuè, to the south with Ponte di Piave and Chiarano, to the east with Ormelle and Ponte di Piave, to the west with Gorgo al Monticano.
The lively historic center of Oderzo is dotted with the vestiges of the Venetic populations who, starting from the 11th century BC, inhabited these fertile lands crossed by the Lia and Monticano rivers.
An extraordinary open-air museum, the historic heart of Oderzo reveals spectacular architectural, sculptural and mosaic testimonies that attest to the glory of the flourishing pre-Roman and Roman civilization.
In addition to preserving millennia-old artifacts that illustrate the paleo-Venetic roots of Opitergium, the sumptuous 16th-century residence of Palazzo Foscolo hosts exciting museum itineraries of modern and contemporary art set up in the Picture Gallery.
Breathtaking urban and natural landscapes, lush green parks and exciting initiatives aimed at promoting the very rich cultural heritage of the area: are you ready to explore the city of Oderzo?
Piazza Grande and the Torresin
Where are Piazza Grande and the Torresin?
Bounded to the east by the course of the Monticano, Piazza Grande represents the cultural, social and spiritual nucleus of the city. Located on the southern side of the square, in correspondence with the medieval walls, the Torresin is an imposing brick structure adorned with elegant swallowtail battlements. Beneath the large arch that opens at the base of the mighty tower passed the Callalta, an ancient Roman road that connected Treviso to the Opitergine urban heart. In the center of the tower stands out the clock face with Roman numerals.
The square is framed on the west side by a series of 17th-century buildings, one of which currently houses the historic Caffè Commercio. On the east side rises the splendid Palazzo Saccomani, a charming historic building recognizable for its porticoed facade entirely frescoed.
San Giovanni Battista Parish
Where is the San Giovanni Battista Parish?
The majestic place of worship, whose impressive mass stands solemnly in the great Opitergine square, is one of the oldest and most representative buildings of the city.
Dating back about seven hundred years, the church is distinguished by a simple double-pitched facade ending with three acroterions. Two Gothic single-lancet windows, whose slender and tall shape accentuates the verticality of the imposing structure, flank the massive wooden door. Above the entrance portal, surmounted by a frescoed lunette, stands a circular opening.
Inside, a fascinating coffered wooden ceiling overhangs the wide nave. Flanked by two side chapels, the apse choir is covered by a dome.
The invaluable artistic heritage that adorns the bright rooms of the cathedral includes splendid sculptures, Roman mosaics, frescoes and oil paintings on biblical subjects.
Archaeological area of the forum and Roman houses in via Mazzini
Located in Piazza del Foro Romano 1, the archaeological site preserves the remains of the ancient Roman forum and an aristocratic domus from the Augustan era. A series of excavation campaigns carried out in the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century have brought to light part of the ancient paved and porticoed forensic area.
Of the noble Roman house, it is possible to admire part of the flooring decorated with geometric patterns in black bands on a white tessellated background and mosaic ornaments with ivy tendril motifs.
Roman mosaics and well
A short distance from the Roman forum, in Via dei Mosaici, there are the remains of a sumptuous domus built more than two thousand years ago. Of the ancient structure, part of the flooring and other rooms covered with mosaic decorations with geometric patterns in black and white tones are visible. Another element of archaeological importance is a millennial well that was part of the noble property.
Palazzo Foscolo and Eno Bellis Museum
Where is Palazzo Foscolo?
The sumptuous centuries-old residence is located at Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, 63, 31046 Oderzo (TV).
The 16th-century noble residence is one of the most fascinating villas in the province of Treviso.
Immersed in a large tree-lined garden, the porticoed main building was flanked by two barchesse, one of which was destroyed, or demolished, for reasons still unknown.
Mutera of Colfrancui
Where is the Mutera of Colfrancui?
One of the most fascinating points of interest from a historical and naturalistic point of view is the mysterious Mutera, an artificial mound immersed in the green landscape of Colfrancui from which a paleo-Venetic funerary nucleus emerged, thanks to an excavation campaign, containing ceramic fragments from about 1,300 years ago and two burials containing precious millennia-old artifacts.
Ca’ Diedo Public Gardens
Where are the Ca’ Diedo public gardens?
The Ca’ Diedo public gardens are located at the homonymous palace in Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, 9, 31046 Oderzo (TV).
Located near the municipal seat of Oderzo, the Ca’ Diedo public gardens represent an ideal reference point for anyone looking for a quiet and green place to stretch out in the shade of the foliage of centuries-old trees, rest on one of the many benches to read and contemplate nature, or walk the path that crosses this small oasis in the historic center of the town. In the center of the public park stands a monument dedicated to the great academic and politician Luigi Luzzati (Venice, March 1, 1841 – Rome, March 29, 1927) Prime Minister from 1910 to 1911.

Blood Donors Bridge
Where is the Blood Donors Bridge?
The bridge that crosses the Monticano is a few steps from the Salacè park.
Reachable via a quiet gravel path that runs along the river course a short distance from the Palaopitergium and the Arca Nuoto swimming pool, the Blood Donors Bridge offers a splendid view of the Monticano River and the soaring spire of the bell tower of the cathedral in Piazza Grande.
Church of San Giacomo Apostolo
Where is the church of San Giacomo Apostolo?
The parish of Colfrancui is located at Via Comunale di Colfrancui, 2, about a hundred meters from Villa Galvagna Giol in the neighboring municipality of Fontanelle.
One of the most characteristic architectural elements of the white place of worship is the thirty-meter high bell tower set in the center of the facade, at whose base the wooden entrance door opens.
Foro Boario
Where is the Foro Boario of Oderzo?
The Foro Boario of Oderzo is located at Via Postumia di Camino, 1, 31046 Oderzo (TV).
From the Latin Forum Bovarium, the Foro Boario was the area dedicated to mercantile, commercial, administrative activities and sacred functions in the city of Opterg, a thriving inhabited center whose toponym, meaning market square, was Latinized into Opitergium during the Romanization process.
Famines, epidemics and disastrous war conflicts that occurred over the centuries have not succeeded in erasing the testimonies of this prosperous civilization. From the archaeological site corresponding to the Roman forum, admirable examples of mosaic art from the Roman era continue to emerge.
