The “Great War” itinerary retraces the deep scars left by the First World War on the territory of the Piave River, evidence of the conflicts that pitted Italian troops against the Austro-Hungarian army. In addition to the monuments built in memory of the fallen, we have received testimonies of the participation in the war of the great writer Ernest Hemingway, an American author who enlisted as a volunteer in the American Red Cross. His writings attest to his arrival in Schio on June 9, 1918, his subsequent transfer to the front at Casa Botter and his numerous passages through the localities of Fornaci, Chiesa Vecchia and Pralongo.
