Bike ride in Villadose
The starting point of the itinerary is the church of San Leonardo Abate. Leave the facade of the place of worship behind you and cross the bridge toward Corte Barchessa, then take the cycle path on your right, which follows a winding canal shaded by cedars and plane trees.
After about 1 km, keep right on Via Filippo Turati and continue east for about 7.5 km, venturing into the peaceful countryside of Rovigo dotted with charming rural homes, imposing rustic buildings and countryside cemeteries surrounded by fields of wheat and corn. Particularly striking is the municipal wood on Via Rizzo, an enchanting green lung cloaked in poplars, maples, cedars, magnolias, hornbeams and many other lush tall trees.
At località Valdentro, cross the red brick bridge on your right. After passing the two canals, keep left and continue along the watercourse that borders the tree-lined garden of Villa Ca’ Emo.
Located at Riviera Eloisa, 44, the property includes the 17th-century manor house wrapped in climbing vegetation, the stables, the barns and the granaries.
Keep left on Via Giacomo Matteotti and continue for 300 metres. Cross the road and continue on Via G. Matteotti and Via Ramalto for 1.7 km in the shade of willows and black locusts, keep right at Località Liparo and continue to the crossroads, then turn right and follow Via Cà Matte for almost 2 km among old farmhouses immersed in greenery.
Cross the regional road toward Cicese. Continue southwest on Via Ramostorto and Località Mezzana for 2.7 km, then keep right on Via Don Minzoni and continue on Via A. Boito, passing through the hamlet of Pezzoli. At the roundabout, take the first exit and follow Via Sant’Antonio for 650 metres, then keep right on Via S. Francesco.
The route continues north for 2.8 km alongside vast agricultural estates cultivated with wheat and rapeseed. In spring, the latter is easily recognised by its distinctive bright yellow hue.
At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Via XXV Aprile. Just before the canal, turn left onto Via Giuseppe Verdi. After 450 metres, at the junction turn right and follow Via Alcide De Gasperi for 500 metres. At the intersection, turn left, cross the small bridge on your right, then turn left again and retrace the cycle path back to the starting point.
